Aalo Atomics, based in Austin, TX, is hiring a Software Engineer for Industrial Controls to own the software runtime from I/O drivers to execution. You will design a deterministic, highly available platform enabling software-defined control of energy and industrial processes, collaborating across controls, systems, hardware, test, and software teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, architecture leadership, and the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into robust, maintainable systems

Qualifications

10+ years of professional software engineering experience with systems software, embedded software, runtime systems, or high‑reliability controls
Experience with deterministic scheduling, fault handling, and hardware interfaces in critical environments
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

Architect and implement a robust industrial controls runtime for standard PC hardware
Define deterministic execution model and fault containment for control software
Design I/O connectivity layers and drivers for PLC I/O modules and industrial protocols
Lead high-availability architecture with hot/standby redundancy and bumpless failover
Develop state replication and memory management for deterministic behavior
Specify runtime interfaces for telemetry, diagnostics, and operator systems
Collaborate with controls, systems, hardware, and software teams to translate requirements
Establish engineering standards for testability, observability, and debugging
Prototype a working runtime with a minimal viable I/O driver set
