Job summary

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is hiring a Staff Auditor I in Augusta, Maine. This full-time role supports MaineCare providers and community agencies, performing financial and compliance audits under supervision.

Ideal candidates bring 6+ years of accounting/auditing or a relevant degree with CPA eligibility, and a willingness to grow expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, and federal grants. Partial telework is allowed with management approval.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of practical, progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience at the professional level.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• Meet the requirements to sit for the CPA Examination (150 credit hours with required accounting/auditing coursework).

Responsibilities

• Perform professional audit work under direction of senior auditors on MaineCare Providers and Community Agencies.
• Complete financial and/or compliance audits for conformance to laws, rules, regulations and standards.
• Grow knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Federal grants through on-the-job experience.
