Grade: 27 | Salary Range: $63,490.96 – $89,650.60 (includes 2.50% stipend)
Minimum Starting Salary: $73,063.64 annually

As a Senior Auditor, you will conduct independent and objective audits of information technology systems that support the State of Maine's financial reporting and compliance with Federal program regulations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, design, and perform audit assignments in accordance with GAO, AICPA, ISACA, and NIST guidance.
• Interpret and apply IT auditing standards and assist in their practical application.
• Perform audits, analysis, and testing of IT controls across physical, OS, database, network, application, and end‑user layers.
• Provide direct supervision to staff auditors, reviewing work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to professional standards.
• Research laws and regulations to ensure proper administration of IT systems used in State and Federal programs.
• Offer technical assistance to senior leadership, financial auditors, and program auditors.
• Act as a resource for State agency personnel by identifying risks through testing of technology controls and ensuring compliance with Federal laws, regulations, contracts, and agreements.

Competencies

• Knowledge of IT auditing standards, principles, and practices promulgated by GAO, AICPA, ISACA, and NIST.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to establish, lead, and manage audit teams.
• Interpretation of agency policies, procedures, and goals for audit planning.
• Conduct complex IT control audits and apply data analytics techniques.
• Research and interpret technology‑related State and Federal laws and regulations.
• Implement new auditing standards or accounting pronouncements.
• Analyze IT system designs, functionality, and related processes.
• Assess audit risk for complex IT systems and adjust strategies as needed.
• Secure, document facts through investigation and interviewing.
• Develop testing strategies to verify IT system functionality and controls.
• Draw conclusions about IT control compliance based on audit testing.
• Prepare and classify audit findings, recommend corrective action, and write technical workpapers.
• Review professional staff work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or Management Information Systems, OR a four‑year equivalent combination of education, training, and progressive professional experience that demonstrates thorough knowledge of IT system audits and technical expertise in IT security, change management, operating systems, software development, databases, networks, and cloud computing.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) certification.
