Job summary

Broward College's Audiovisual Technology team at Central Campus is seeking an experienced Audiovisual Engineer to design, install, maintain, and support AV solutions across campus locations. You will support high-profile events, troubleshoot equipment, and ensure smooth operation of displays, projectors, sound systems, and conferencing gear.

The role requires an Associate degree or equivalent, 4 years of relevant experience, and hands-on skills with Crestron, AV racks, and networked AV

Qualifications

  • Four years of relevant experience maintaining and repairing computers and AV equipment.
  • AV/IT knowledge including Crestron control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles AV racks for in-house installation, including wiring and testing.
  • Performs onsite installation following diagrams, including mounting displays and cabling.
  • Provides technical assistance to IT support for AV hardware.
  • Sets up and tears down equipment for high-profile meetings.
  • Trains IT staff on AV hardware and software capabilities.

Job description

Job Profile Summary

Employees in this classification are part of the college-wide Audiovisual Technology team. Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to design, build, maintain, and support audiovisual solutions across all college locations. Provide technical support for high-profile college events (i.e. board meetings, town halls, foundation events) This position will provide high level support to the campus general support teams to troubleshoot and correct audiovisual issues for a specified department, division, or any campus location. This requires knowledge of the installation and/or repair of displays, projectors and screens, Smart boards, speakers, amplifiers, audio/video switchers, mixers, microphones, control systems, and videoconferencing units. In addition, a knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures for installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, repairing computer hardware, software configuration, network components, audio/visual equipment, video conferencing, Windows, and OSX are required. This position will perform proactive measures to ensure effective operation of all audiovisual technology collegewide. Some of the proactive measures include, but are not limited to, management applications, projector lamp replacement, and other tasks set forth by the Assistant Director of Audiovisual Technology.

Minimum Education

Associate degree required in business management or technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Minimum Experience/Training

Four years of relevant experience in maintaining and repairing computers and audio/visual equipment.

Minimum Certification/Licenses

AVIXA CTS Preferred, Crestron CTIP-101 Essential Functions:

  • Daily - 35%: Assembles AV racks for in-house installation. This includes, but is not limited to, racking components, wiring integration, hardware configuration, loading program code, test and quality control.
  • Daily - 20%: Performs onsite installation following a detailed signal flow or detailed diagram provided by the Assistant Director of Audiovisual technology. This includes but is not limited to, cable pulls and termination, mounting of projectors and displays, PC, monitors, cameras, microphones. Some of this function takes place on a ladder working overhead.
  • Daily - 10%: Provides technical assistance and support for AV hardware to IT support technicians maintaining service level objectives.
  • Monthly - 5%: Attends training to stay current with present and future trends in technology by attending necessary training and conferences.
  • Weekly - 5%: Trains college IT support technicians on the capabilities and limitations of the available hardware and software to ensure maximum use.
  • Monthly - 20%: Sets up, operate and tear down all in-house equipment and rented or client provided audio-visual for Board of Trustees and other high profile meetings featuring complex multimedia setups.
  • Daily - 5%: Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • AV/DV equipment setup/strike/troubleshooting/operation/maintenance including: computer laptops, media players, video projectors, video/ teleconference devices, audio systems and their components, digital video cameras, editing/recording equipment, and other miscellaneous AV related components and cabling.
  • Working knowledge of PA systems for college events. (Speakers, Microphones, Amplifiers, Digital Mixers etc.)
  • The operation of video switchers/mixers for video and computer sources.
  • Ability to understand AV signal flow diagrams, physically install, and terminate AV equipment racks.
  • Ability to field terminate CAT5e/6, SDI, XLR, TRS, terminal blocks, and other industry standard AV connectors.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Crestron control systems to load and update program code and troubleshoot system components.
  • Provide productive feedback and process improvement ideas to manager.
  • Keep office, storage and meeting areas neat and organized always.
  • Ability to manage own time and follow established priorities while participating as an active team member.
  • Requires the application of specific IT concepts within area of technical expertise.
  • In-depth functional knowledge and expertise in multiple technology environments, programs, languages, etc.
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with employee and student populations.
  • Ability to manage own work and work of others to unit performance standards for cost, quality, and output (e.g., demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills, ability to set priorities for self and others, schedule work activities, allocate resources and provide appropriate feedback).
