General Summary of Duties

Christie Clinic's department of Audiology is seeking a part-time (24 hours/week) clinical Audiologist at the Fields clinic between the hours of Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements.

Duties include providing direct patient services in the areas of diagnostic audiologic testing, vestibular testing and rehabilitation, and hearing aid recommendation and fitting.

An Illinois State Licensure from IDFPR, Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA, and Illinois Hearing Aid License from IDPH, and a Master's Degree in Audiology is required.

Job Qualifications and Expectations

JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

  • Obtain case history through chart review, patient interview, behavioral observation, and family report

  • Perform all diagnostic tests necessary to determine the degree of loss and site-of-lesion for patients with auditory and vestibular complaints, including but not limited to VRA, BOA, CPA, routine audiometric procedures (AC, BC, SRT, WRS, Tympanograms, Reflex battery), threshold and diagnostic ABR, OAE, ENG, and CAP screening.

  • Interpret the results and communicate them in written form (dictated chart notes) or verbally (consultation with allied medical professionals).

  • Formulate and implement rehabilitative strategies for patients with vestibular lesions (vestibular rehabilitation, CRP) or hearing loss (evaluate, fit, verify, and validate hearing aids).

  • Counsel patients and their families.

  • Refer to appropriate allied health professionals, as needed.

  • Provide technical assistance to hearing aid patients, as needed (minor repairs, earmold modifications, assistive listening devices and FM systems).

  • Educate patients about hearing loss prevention strategies (counseling, custom earplugs).

  • Promote community education through health screenings, educational lectures, and news releases.

  • Maintain audiologic test equipment on a daily basis and recommend the implementation of new audiologic procedures, as needed.

  • Provide in-service training for staff, interns and students.

  • Attend all required meetings and seminars.

  • Maintain all necessary professional affiliations.

  • Perform related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Audiology

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA

  • Illinois Hearing Aid License from IDPH

  • Audiology License from the Department of Professional Regulation

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires prolonged standing or sitting, frequent bending, stooping or stretching. May require lifting or positioning a patient. Requires lifting items up to 50 pounds and carrying them for a distance of 25 feet. Requires hearing and vision which are not handicapping in the corrected condition. Requires fine manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination for repair and calibration. May be required to work with patients who are confused or in a state of distress. May be exposed to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work quickly and accurately in a demanding environment. May be exposed to communicable diseases common to a clinic setting. Must have auditory/visual skills which allow for proper interpretation of all audiologic test procedures.

The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
