Position Summary / Career Interest:

Responsible for testing, evaluating and prescribing treatment of hearing disorders. Provides a full range of diagnostic, consultative, and rehabilitative audiology services to patients and families.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Obtains case history and administers diagnostic tests to determine nature, degree and type of hearing problem.
  • Consults with patients on the nature of hearing loss and communicative problems. Develops individualized treatment programs. Conducts follow-up to determine patient progress. Modifies therapy program.
  • Interprets results and dictates reports for medical records. Consults with other medical professionals.
  • Plans and directs treatment programs. Works with other therapists.
  • Instructs patients and their families in rehabilitative procedures.
  • Develops new audiologist programs and services.
  • Performs hearing aid evaluations and dispenses hearing aids.
  • Checks hearing aids, repairs and sells batteries for them.
  • Makes referrals for further diagnostic evaluation and therapy and/or treatment.
  • Conducts rehabilitation therapy including auditory training.
  • Trains interns, students and technical staff in testing and rehabilitative procedures.
  • Maintains audiology equipment. Helps select audiologic equipment, orders hearing aids, and other supplies.
  • Plans daily schedules, maintains appointments and records fees for service.
  • Collects data and prepares reports. Maintains patient statistics.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
