Summary
The Dayton - Ohio Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for a well-qualified Audiologist in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service's Audiology and Speech Pathology Service. This Audiologist will work within the medical center as well as all clinical and patient care areas within the service, including the Lima, Middletown, Richmond, and Springfield CBOCs. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations, providing treatment, and overseeing the Tinnitus Program within the service.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
- Education: (1) Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an accredited program recognized by ACAE or CAA of ASHA, or (2) a doctoral degree in hearing science or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice audiology in the U.S. All audiologists performing examinations must meet experience requirements.
- Loss of Credential: Management must immediately relieve employees who fail to maintain licensure. Employees with revoked or restricted licenses cannot be appointed or retained in duties requiring licensure.
- Grandfathering Provision: Employees in this occupation on the effective date who meet certain criteria are considered to have met all requirements. Those who do not meet all requirements but were qualified at the time of appointment may be reassigned or promoted within limits.
- Foreign Education: Education completed outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a recognized organization to be deemed equivalent to U.S. standards.
- Physical Requirements: Refer to VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
- English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as per 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
Grade Determinations: GS-13 level requires at least two years of professional audiology experience, demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities, and the ability to serve as a subject matter expert and provide oversight of a specialty program, including tinnitus management.
Preferred Experience: Experience with tinnitus management and the Progressive Tinnitus Management Program. The full performance level is GS-12, with the actual grade at GS-13.
Duties
- Coordinate and oversee the Dayton VAMC Tinnitus Program, providing comprehensive clinical services and staff training.
- Serve as SME for tinnitus care, mentoring staff, and guiding interdisciplinary teams.
- Perform specialized evaluations, interpret tests, and develop treatment plans for tinnitus and related disorders.
- Implement and monitor clinical procedures, ensuring adherence to policies and best practices.
- Consult with healthcare providers, evaluate patient progress, and provide education and counseling.
- Manage care delivery via in-person and telehealth modalities, understanding complex patient needs.
- Review and update policies, communicate program goals, and foster relationships within the medical center and CBOCs.
- Mentor students and trainees, participate in continuing education, and ensure compliance with privacy and consent regulations.
- Maintain program efficacy, prepare educational materials, and assist in staff orientation and training.
- Work schedule: 0800-1630, Monday through Thursday. Telework not available.
