Job Summary :

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive audiology services to clients. Duties include evaluation, diagnosing, and treatment of hearing disorders; dispensing of hearing aids and assistive listening technology; and determination of patient needs for hearing therapy and rehabilitation beyond amplification devices.

Job Description

Representative Tasks

  • Provides state-of-the-art hearing assessment. Dispenses hearing aids and assistive listening technology.
  • Provides state-of-the-art hearing therapy (i.e. aural rehabilitation to adults and children who need assistance beyond amplification devices).
  • In coordination with the physician(s), assists with day-to-day operation of the audiology clinic and hearing aid dispensary.
  • Provides clinical teaching and supervision of students enrolled in audiology practicums.
  • Actively participates in assisting the Physician Group and its members to accomplish group and individual goals in a productive, cooperative and (respectful) collegial manner.

Supervision

Work completed autonomously. Receives general direction working from established policies and procedures. Supervisor sets overall objectives and resources available, and provides consultation to employee to develop deadlines, projects and work to be completed. Employee plans and carries out assignments, resolves most conflicts, coordinates work with others, and interprets policy on own initiative. Employee keeps physician informed of progress, potential issues or far-reaching implications.

Typically acts as a lead, coordinating the work of others, but not a supervisor. Allocates work as a team leader, coordinates tasks for the team and may check on quality and work progress. May also act as a coach or mentor.

Education and Experience

MS or MA in audiology or Doctor of Audiology and four years of experience in Audiology clinical practice. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

  • Knows and follows best practices of the discipline and stays current with changes in the field.
  • Knows and follows protocols of the ENT Physician practice.
  • Ability to examine and assess clients of all ages - infants through adults with hearing or related ear problems.
  • Ability to fit and dispense hearing aids and determine benefit and efficiency of fitting.
  • Ability to diagnose and administer relief for various hearing related issues including vertigo.
  • Ability to counsel patients and families on ways to communicate using various communication methods and various assistive listening devices that are available.
  • Knowledgeable of effects of noise on hearing and hearing loss prevention.
  • Ability to counsel patients and families on ways to communicate using various communication methods.
  • Knowledge of the various hearing aid manufacturers' products and fitting software.

Licenses, Certificates or Registration

Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, or ability to acquire within three months; Indiana State License to practice Audiology, or ability to acquire within three months.
