Job summary

Sonos is seeking a Co-op in Boston to join a fast-paced, cross-functional team focused on audio engineering and product testing. In this 6-month program, you’ll design components for testing loudspeakers and microphones, learn measurement techniques, and contribute to design reviews and validation efforts.

You will work from our Boston office at least four days per week, collaborating across disciplines to transform requirements into optimized solutions while expanding your skills in audio

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a BS/BA or AA in Engineering program.
• Interest in audio and how smart speaker products are designed and manufactured.
• Ability to execute development tasks independently with a can-do attitude.
• Ability to collect and present technical data to a wide audience.
• Open to peer review of one’s work.
• Experience working in a diverse, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop components, assemblies, and fixtures to support testing and measurement of loudspeakers, microphones and acoustic assemblies.
• Develop understanding of the Audio Engineering role within a Sound Experience company.
• Develop skills in audio measurement, signal processing and analysis.
• Work on test plan development, prototyping, design reviews, validation, and manufacturing.

There is no relocation or housing assistance for this position.WHAT YOU’LL DOBe immersed in a fast-paced, collaborative, and highly cross-functional team environmentGain an understanding of the Audio Engineering role within a Sound Experience companyLearn how to transform unrefined, interdependent requirements into highly optimized solutions, covering test plan development, prototyping, design reviews, validation, and manufacturing.Design and develop components, assemblies, and fixtures to support testing and measurement of loudspeakers, microphones and acoustic assemblies.Develop your skills in audio measurement, signal processing and analysis.SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTESBasic QualificationsCurrently enrolled in a BS/BA or AA in Engineering programFundamental interest in and curiosity of all things audio, how smart speaker products are designed, tested and manufactured!Demonstrated ability to execute development tasks independently with a “can-do” attitude.Ability to collect and present technical data, both written and verbally, to a wide audience.Open and willing to initiate peer review of one’s work.Ability to work in a highly diverse, cross functional team.Sufficiently trustworthy to work in a high security, highly confidential laboratory.Preferred QualificationsAn interest in audio, acoustics, speaker building, sound reproduction or music production.Strong skills in physics, waves and oscillations.Hands-on 3D printing, machining and/or fabrication skills.Experience with circuit modelling in P-SPICE, VituixCAD or similar program.PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONSCurrently enrolled in a College or University with a preferred field of study in Audio or Acoustical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical EngineeringAvailable to participate in our full-time co-op program from January - June 2027Ability to work out of our Boston office a minimum 4 days per weekApplicants must be authorized to work for any US employer, both now and in the future.
