Job summary

The New York Times is seeking an audiences-focused editor to lead programming and personalization for Wirecutter’s ecommerce initiatives, with emphasis on the Wirecutter Store. You will shape messaging, campaigns, and lifecycle flows, aligning with Wirecutter’s voice and independence.

You will report to the Deputy Director of Newsletters and Programming, collaborating with newsroom, commerce, marketing, product, and analytics teams to deepen reader engagement across platforms.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a newsroom, audience, or editorial marketing role involving digital audiences.
  • Experience with email newsletters, lifecycle programs, or audience-led messaging channels.
  • Strong editorial judgment and line-editing skills for clear, trustworthy copy.
  • Ability to use analytics and audience insights to inform messaging decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive voice and editorial quality of Store-related messaging across channels.
  • Line-edit copy for newsletters, lifecycle flows, push, SMS, on-site promos.
  • Create messaging frameworks for Store moments and launches.
  • Collaborate with marketing to engage users at every lifecycle touchpoint.
  • Maintain a Store messaging style guide aligned with Wirecutter goals.
  • Contribute to Wirecutter newsletters and programming around major moments.
  • Design reader journeys with product and data to improve engagement.
  • Test and optimize subject lines, CTAs, timing, and sequencing.
  • Maintain a unified Store messaging calendar integrated with editorial events.
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to connect journalism to the Store.
  • Perform related work as assigned and uphold journalistic independence.
