Job Summary

Coordinates and conducts professional legal work in units within the Office of the Pima County Attorney. Incumbents perform advanced-level legal work in the area assigned for either criminal or civil matters, preparing, prosecuting, and resolving the most complex legal work involving serious and consequential matters demanding a higher degree of skill and knowledge. Work is performed with considerable latitude, independent judgment, and professional discretion.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Prosecute or defend the most difficult, complex criminal or civil cases, or voluminous caseloads requiring specialized experience and training, brought for and against the County, in State or Federal Courts.
  • Manage the most demanding criminal or civil cases in public sector law or manage caseloads requiring specialized skills and experience.
  • Represent County departments, boards and commissions in civil litigation and administrative matters.
  • Prepare ordinances, resolutions, contracts and leases for consideration by county officials.
  • Prepare legal opinions and advise county officials on a variety of legal matters.
  • Engage in negotiations for compromise and settlement of cases and comply with Victims’ Rights.
  • Engage in pretrial, trial, post-trial and appellate practice as required by cases.
  • Prepare litigation, depose witnesses, provide witness notification, and conduct complex bench and jury trials.
  • Develop, refine, and present legal strategies; review legal documents, extract relevant information, evaluate legal issues and legal system variables, and negotiate agreements.
  • Conduct research and provide consultation involving complex and difficult legal issues.
  • Research and draft legal motions, pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents.
  • Review, evaluate, and participate in investigations.
  • Comply with all rules regulating professional responsibility.
  • Uphold the values and goals of the assigned Department and County.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate and five (5) years of relevant prosecution, defense, or civil experience.
  • Admission to the Arizona State Bar at time of appointment, in good standing.
  • Valid Arizona driver license.
Salary

Pay Range: $95,846 – $182,041 annually.

  • Interviews and final selection are conducted by the hiring authority from a referral list provided by Human Resources.
