Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior privacy and data protection legal leader in the United States to guide AI compliance and regulatory adherence. The role partners with business, product, engineering, and executive teams to balance legal risk with innovation.

You will draft and refine privacy policies, advise on technology transactions, and lead governance programs to ensure compliance with GLBA, FCRA, CCPA, and related laws. This is a high-impact in-house role reporting to the Chief Legal Officer.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in the United States and eligible to work full-time without sponsorship.
• 8+ years of legal experience, with strong background in privacy/data protection and technology transactions.
• Experience advising on AI governance and regulatory compliance for products/services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization's privacy, data protection, and AI compliance initiatives.
• Advise business and product teams on the legal implications of AI-enabled products and services.
• Develop and maintain internal privacy and AI governance policies, procedures, and compliance playbooks.
• Draft and update terms of service and privacy policies.
• Review, draft, and negotiate vendor and SaaS agreements focusing on privacy and data protection.
• Provide legal guidance on consumer privacy laws and regulatory requirements.
• Assess data collection, consent, retention, and usage across products and platforms.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on complex matters as the primary internal privacy resource.

• Lead the organization's privacy, data protection, and AI compliance initiatives


• Advise business and product teams on the legal implications of AI-enabled products and services


• Develop and maintain internal privacy and AI governance policies, procedures, and compliance playbooks


• Draft and update terms of service and privacy policies


• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial and vendor agreements focused on privacy, security, and data protection


• Provide legal guidance on consumer privacy laws and industry-specific regulatory requirements


• Assess data collection, consent, retention, and usage practices across products and platforms


• Partner with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks related to emerging technologies


• Coordinate with outside counsel on complex legal matters while serving as the primary internal privacy resource


• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting privacy, AI, and consumer protection laws


• Partner with the information technology team on data security matters and initiatives


• Support broader commercial and operational legal matters as needed


• Report to the Chief Legal Officer


• Partner with business, product, engineering, and executive leadership

Requirements

• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship now or in the future


• J.D. from an accredited law school


• Active U.S. bar admission


• Approximately 8+ years of legal experience


• Strong law firm and/or in-house legal experience


• Significant experience advising on privacy, data protection, technology transactions, or commercial contracting


• Working knowledge of GLBA, FCRA, CCPA and other U.S. state privacy laws, TCPA, DPPA, and COPPA or similar online privacy regulations


• Experience advising on AI governance, machine learning, automated decision-making, or emerging technology compliance


• Experience negotiating complex vendor, SaaS, and technology agreements


• Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to cross-functional business teams


• Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills


• Familiarity with TILA/Regulation Z and ECOA/Regulation B preferred


• Experience supporting product development, engineering, or technology organizations highly preferred


• Technology, SaaS, FinTech, financial services, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred


• Experience developing practical compliance frameworks preferred


• Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced environment
