Job summary

Responsibilities

• Provides legal counsel and guidance to the Office of Behavioral Health, Human Resources Section, and LDH regional operations.
• Makes final decisions on complex legal matters affecting LDH programs and operations, within established executive oversight.
• Advises LDH leadership on legal issues, risks, and matters impacting Department programs and services.
• Reviews and analyzes complex legal issues and recommends appropriate courses of action.
• Assists the Executive Counsel, Deputy Executive Counsel, and General Counsel with Department-wide legal activities and initiatives.
• Provides legal support across LDH program offices and regions, ensuring matters are addressed in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and policies.
• Performs highly responsible professional and administrative duties requiring comprehensive knowledge of LDH’s organization, programs, services, and operations.

Join the Louisiana Department of Health as Chief Deputy General Counsel 2 and play a pivotal role in guiding complex legal matters across the Department’s statewide operations. Incumbent serves the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) as Chief Deputy General Counsel 2 for the LDH Office of Behavioral Health (OBH), the LDH Human Resources (HR) Section, and LDH regional activities for the various programs within LDH, with responsibility for final decisions in complex agency legal matters in all LDH regions, limited only by the general supervision of the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Executive Counsel, Deputy Executive Counsel, and General Counsel. The incumbent must also be familiar with all aspects of the Department's organization and its program offices and services as the incumbent performs highly responsible professional and administrative duties, assisting in all legal activities of the Department and assisting the Executive Counsel, Deputy Executive Counsel, and the General Counsel.
