Job summary

The Air Force Legal Operations Agency seeks an attorney to represent parties in Federal District Courts, appellate courts, the Supreme Court, and state courts. You will perform rigorous legal research, gather facts, and develop evidence to support AF litigation positions.

You must hold a JD from an ABA-accredited school, maintain active bar status, and have at least 3 years of related experience; an LL.M. may count toward experience.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited school required.
• Active bar status in state, DC, or US territory, current within 4 months.
• 3+ years of related legal experience.
• LL.M. may count for 1 year of experience.
• Knowledge of FLRA, Title VII, ADEA, Rehabilitation Act and related DoD/AF issuances.

Responsibilities

• Represents parties in Federal District Courts, Federal Appellate Courts, the US Supreme Court, and State courts.
• Conducts legal research and analyzes facts to support AF litigation positions.

Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to legally represent the above parties in Federal District Courts, Federal Appellate Courts, the US Supreme Court and State courts.

Condition of Employment continue:

Must have a law degree (JD) from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a state or the District of Columbia or other Federal Bar, as appropriate, and at least 3 years of related experience. A master of laws (LL.M.) in a related field will count for one (1) year of experience.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

• You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
• In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. On-line information is allowed as long as it shows that you are in "active" status.

GS-14 Specialized Experience:

In addition to the basic requirement: you must have professional legal experience in excess of three (3) years that commensurate with the position's duties and responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

• 1. In depth knowledge of the Federal Labor Management Relations Statute and related statutes and regulations, and FLRA case law, Federal Court case law interpreting the statute, and DoD/AF issuances implementing them.
• 2. In depth knowledge of the Title VII, ADEA, Rehabilitation Act and other anti-discrimination laws and the Federal Regulations associated with those laws, EEOC case law, EEOC Management Directives, Federal Court case law interpreting the statutes, and DoD/AF issuances implementing them.
• 3. In depth knowledge of the statutes governing the MSPB, implementing regulations, MSPB case law, Federal Court case law interpreting the statute, and DoD/AF issuances implementing them.
• 4. In depth knowledge of Federal Rules for Civil Procedure, and litigation techniques necessary for the defense of the AF in administrative and judicial forums.
• 5. In depth knowledge of other administrative forums in which the LLFSC practices such as the FSIP, FMCS, OSC, etc.
• 6. Ability to defend the AF before administrative and judicial forums. Ability to perform legal research using electronic and traditional means. Ability to gather facts and effectively evaluate and analyze them to develop evidence to support AF litigation positions. Ability to establish work priorities and delegate tasks. Skill in communicating both orally and in writing. Knowledge of DoD and AF structure and chain of command.
