Job summary

Air Force District of Washington seeks a licensed attorney to render legal advice and provide continuity in legal matters for the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, supporting HAF/SAF services and outsourcing efforts.

The position requires an ABA-accredited JD or LLB and active status with a state bar, plus more than three years of professional legal experience. A Juris Doctorate and good standing in the bar are mandatory.

Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to render legal advice and opinions and to provide the services of a professional attorney and give continuity in legal matters to the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate with highest concentration of effort in performing legal services in supporting Headquarters Air Force (HAF) and Secretary of the Air Force (SAF) Services and related requirements as well as future major program outsourcing and insourcing efforts.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD).
  • In addition, at the time of application, you must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of "active" status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. On-line information is allowed as long as it shows that you are in "active" status.
Specialized Experience:

In addition to the basic requirement: you must have professional legal experience in excess of three (3) years that commensurate with the position's duties and responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

  1. Knowledge of Federal acquisition law, (to include knowledge of sophisticated source selections and systems-type acquisitions), contracts (including knowledge of cost-technical trade-offs and FAR Cost Accounting Standards issues), Fiscal law, OMB Circular A-76, legal assistance and military administrative law.
  2. Skill in written communication to produce a variety of legal documents.
  3. Ability to independently perform research, analyzes, and draws meaningful conclusions.
  4. Skill in oral communication to provide effective oral instructions or present effective arguments.
  5. Ability to speak and deal with a wide range of individuals from various backgrounds.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:

Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Additional Conditions of Employment:
  • Position requires a Jurisprudence Doctorate (J.D), the employee having successfully graduated from an accredited law school and the ability to practice law within the United States. Continuous membership in good standing with the bar of any state or the District of Columbia is required.
