Job summary

The Waycross Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender at APD 1–4 level depending on experience. Primary duties include representing indigent defendants in the Superior Courts of the Waycross Judicial Circuit.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate and license to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for Georgia Bar
  • Must obtain licensure to practice law in Georgia within one year of hiring or by reciprocity

Responsibilities

  • Zealously represents indigent clients at all appropriate stages of the criminal process, consistent with the attorney's assigned division.
  • Evaluates each case for referrals to accountability courts, diversion programs, and social services.
  • Experienced attorneys provide training, guidance, and mentorship to less experienced attorneys.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Waycross Judicial Circuit Public Defender's Office is seeking to fill an Assistant Public Defender position. This position can be filled at the APD 1, 2, 3, or 4 level, depending on experience. Primary duties will be representation of indigent criminal defendants in the Superior Courts of the Waycross Judicial Circuit. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities of the position. Experience in all areas of criminal defense is preferred. The chosen applicant will be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia and must have a strong commitment to indigent criminal defense. Minimum Qualifications
