Spherion is hiring an Attorney for our client in Toledo, OH! We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Litigation Associate Attorney with a minimum of 3+ years of experience to join a growing civil practice. This is a premier partner-track opportunity for a motivated litigator who excels in complex legal analysis, brief writing, and courtroom strategy. The ideal candidate will handle a balanced caseload consisting of Commercial Litigation and Insurance Defense Litigation. You will work directly alongside senior partners in a collegial environment that offers immediate file responsibility, mentorship, and a clear path toward equity/non-equity partnership.

Responsibilities

• Brief Writing & Motion Practice: Research, draft, and file persuasive pleadings, dispositive motions, summary judgment motions, appellate briefs, and complex legal memoranda.
• Case Management & Discovery: Oversee civil and commercial litigation files from intake through resolution, including managing written discovery, conducting rule 26 disclosures, and organizing evidence.
• Depositions & Court Appearances: Conduct and defend depositions of key witnesses, parties, and experts; represent clients in court hearings, pre-trial conferences, and arbitrations.
• Client & Insurer Communications: Maintain clear, strategic communication with business owners, corporate representatives, and insurance claim handlers regarding case strategy, exposure analysis, and settlement evaluations.
• Trial Preparation: Collaborate with senior attorneys to prepare cases for trial, including witness preparation, exhibit drafting, and pre-trial motions in limine.

Working hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Skills

• Experience with both first-party and third-party insurance defense matters, as well as general commercial contract disputes.
• While a portable book of business is not required, any business development background or portable client base is considered a strong plus.

Qualifications

• Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Bar Admission: Active license in good standing to practice law in the State of Ohio (or eligible for immediate admission by motion/reciprocity).
• Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of post-qualification experience in civil litigation, insurance defense, or commercial litigation.
• Writing Excellence: Superior legal research, analytical, and brief-writing skills with a proven track record of drafting complex motions.
• Professionalism & Drive: Strong interpersonal skills, strategic judgment, and the initiative required to manage cases independently on a partner track.
