Equiliem is seeking a licensed attorney with experience applying federal civil rights statutes to support a federal government program involving complaint reviews, investigations, and compliance matters in New York.

The ideal candidate will analyze complex legal issues, prepare well-reasoned findings, draft memoranda and reports, and communicate with internal stakeholders while maintaining confidential case files.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting litigation, investigations, administrative law, compliance, civil rights, or related legal matters.
  • Experience applying federal civil rights laws such as Title VI, VII, IX, ADA, and related acts.
  • Strong legal writing experience: memoranda, investigative reports, or legal recommendations.
  • Active bar license in good standing in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience involving First Amendment issues or constitutional law preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting a federal government legal, investigative, or compliance function preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review complaints, allegations, and supporting documentation to determine appropriate case disposition.
  • Conduct legal and factual analysis of investigations and compliance matters.
  • Research and interpret applicable federal laws, regulations, policies, and guidance.
  • Draft legal memoranda, investigative summaries, correspondence, reports, and recommendations.

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to obtain information and clarify case details.
  • Support quality assurance efforts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion of work.
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate has experience analyzing complex legal issues, preparing well-reasoned legal findings, and applying federal statutes and regulations in an investigative, administrative, or compliance environment. Experience involving First Amendment issues is highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated experience applying federal civil rights statutes, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination Act.
  • Strong legal writing experience, including memoranda, investigative reports, case evaluations, dismissal letters, or legal recommendations.
  • Active bar license in good standing in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience involving First Amendment issues or constitutional law is preferred.
