Job summary

Air Transport International (ATI) is seeking a Crew Planner to develop and optimize contractual crew schedules in alignment with FARs, CBAs, and operational requirements. You will work with scheduling, training, and other departments to balance utilization and costs across planned flying and ad hoc charters.

Responsibilities include forecasting staffing needs, maintaining crew data systems, and supporting budgeting and cost analysis.

ATI is an FAR Part 121 charter airline headquartered in Wilmington, Ohio, and operates a worldwide fleet of Boeing 757 and 767 cargo and combi passenger aircraft. ATI specializes in freight forwarding, government and military contracts. ATI is a subsidiary of Air Transport Services Group, Inc.

Purpose:

Crew Planning is responsible for the long-range planning, staffing, and optimization of ATI's flight crew resources. The Crew Planner develops and administers contractual bid processes, including monthly bid packages, vacation, and reserve bids; evaluates crew coverage and staffing requirements; and utilizes planning tools, data, and optimization techniques to develop efficient crew solutions. The Crew Planner is also responsible for maintaining and supporting ATI's crew optimization systems, including system parameters, planning data, and optimization processes to ensure accurate, reliable, and effective results. All planning activities must align with applicable FARs, collective bargaining agreements, company policies, and operational requirements while balancing crew utilization, service reliability, and cost.

Job Functions:

• Develop, optimize, publish, and disseminate contractual crew schedules in accordance with applicable FARs, collective bargaining agreements, company policies, and operational requirements. Maintain expertise in crew planning, scheduling, and optimization systems used to develop and administer crew schedules, including system configuration, planning parameters, and optimization processes.
• Develop and analyze data-driven staffing models, forecasts, and planning scenarios to evaluate crew requirements, resource utilization, and operational needs. Partner with Crew Scheduling, Training, and other operational departments to align staffing plans with projected demand, training requirements, and operational objectives while maximizing crew utilization and cost effectiveness.
• Evaluate and incorporate changes to planned flying, including last-minute charters and other ad hoc operational requirements, into existing crew plans while identifying opportunities to optimize crew resources, improve productivity, and achieve cost efficiencies. Conduct ad hoc studies, scenario analyses, and fleet and crew resource evaluations to assess operational impacts and support data-driven decisions by leadership and key stakeholders.
• Partners with Travel Logistics to ensure safe, legal, and cost-effective crew transportation and lodging requirements are incorporated into crew planning, routing, and optimization solutions. Prepare and submit required hotel files as part of the contractual crew bidding process and provide crew-related schedule and lodging data to support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis when customer schedules and projected flying are known to the company.
• Administer the annual pilot vacation bid and award process and manage ongoing vacation adjustments and reallocations in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and company policies. Monitor vacation accruals, awards, usage, and remaining balances to ensure accurate crew records, contractual compliance, and appropriate crew staffing coverage.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, Flight Operations, In-Flight, Crew Scheduling, Training, and other stakeholders to develop and evaluate crew resource plans that support operational requirements, staffing needs, contractual compliance, and efficient resource utilization. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

• Exceptional critical-thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to leverage data analytics to evaluate complex crew planning scenarios and develop cost-effective solutions. Ability to understand the broader operational impact of crew planning decisions, balance competing departmental needs and contractual requirements, and align solutions with the company's overall goals and objectives.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet multiple contractual deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with a variety of audiences through verbal, non-verbal, and written communication.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with at least one year of aviation scheduling, planning, or related experience, or a Bachelor's degree.
• Working knowledge of applicable Pilot and Flight Attendant FARs and contracts, with experience applying them in an operational environment.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Preferred Job Skills:

• Knowledge of Lufthansa Netline or similar Crew Tracking system and familiarity with Preferential Bidding Systems
• Proficiency with data sources, SQL, RAVE, and data analytics tools.
• Two or more years of experience in Crew Planning, Crew Staffing, or Crew Scheduling, with experience supporting complex and/or international airline operations preferred.
• Bachelors degree in Aviation, Business Administration, or Data Analytics

• The physical requirements of this position are consistent with a primarily office-based work environment. The employee must be able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, frequently use a keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment, and occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or carry office materials weighing up to 25 pounds. The position may require occasional movement throughout the office or operational areas and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods.
• The position requires the ability to maintain focus and perform effectively under time-sensitive conditions, including periods of extended computer use, changing priorities, and operational disruptions.
