Job summary

Howard University is seeking an Athletics Purchasing Officer to manage procurement for 21 varsity programs and support areas. This role leads purchases for athletic apparel, equipment, and services, coordinating with coaches and staff to meet precise specifications.

The APO will approve purchasing requests, maintain ordered item records, and communicate status to staff and accounts payable, while liaising with vendors and supporting procurement reporting and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in purchasing and procurement processes.
• Familiarity with Workday or similar ERP systems is a plus.
• Experience with software ordering/tracking/inventory systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as athletics purchasing agent for goods and services for varsity programs.
• Coordinate with head coaches, staff, and equipment room on purchases.
• Approve and process Athletics Purchasing Request Forms.
• Maintain procurement processes and notify staff of status.
• Confirm receipt of items to accounts payable and vendor during procurement.
• Assist with monthly/annual Athletics Business Office reporting.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
