Job summary

The New Canaan YMCA is seeking a Director of Athletic Operations to lead the development and execution of youth and adult athletic programs, leagues, clinics, and tournaments. This role oversees the basketball and league operations Manager and the Assistant Director of Programs, ensuring high-quality, safe, and engaging experiences across all sports offerings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Sports Management or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience in sports management.
• Must present professionally and communicate effectively with peers, staff, and members.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification within first 3 months.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of the Manager of Basketball and League Operations and the Assistant Director of Programs.
• Oversee development of youth and adult sports, leagues, clinics, and tournaments.
• Create new court/field-based classes and league opportunities for youth and adults.
• Develop departmental budget and manage staff recruitment, scheduling, and evaluation.
• Coordinate with Y Special Needs Department for inclusive programs.
• Organize summer programs, camps, and birthday-party sports experiences.
• Maintain risk management and safety across all facilities and activities.
