DESCRIPTION

St. Rose High School, a Catholic, co-educational high school located in Belmar, NJ, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach. As the Head Coach, you will play a crucial role in shaping the baseball program, fostering a positive and competitive environment for student‑athletes.

The Head Coach's job goal is to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student will receive instruction that will lead to good sportsmanship, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline and self‑confidence.

SUMMARY

The Head Coach advises, coordinates and supports a staff of assistant coaches in conjunction with the Athletic Director. The Coach shall exercise common sense, good judgment, and perform duties consistent with the school's educational philosophy. The Coach will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct. Duties include instruction, communication with students and parents, program management, logistics, and travel as supervised by the Athletic Director.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Head coaching experience at high school level preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 3 years of high school assistant coaching experience required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Minimum of 60 college credits
  • Hold or be able to obtain a Monmouth County substitute certificate
  • In‑depth knowledge of the sport's techniques, strategies, and rules

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB
  • Appropriate certification is required; all coaches may need to attend a parent orientation informational event
  • Must be available daily during the sports season
  • Must be certified in CPR as per NJSIAA regulations
  • All first‑year coaches must be certified in CPR and First Aid per NJSIAA regulations
  • Must complete the Diocese of Trenton's VIRTUS training and receive Fingerprint/Background Check clearance before starting work
NJSIAA Coaching Certification and Regulations

Coaches must comply with state Department of Education regulations and the following NJSIAA rules:

  • Eligible to coach in any interscholastic contest when all conditions are satisfied
  • Appointment approved by the local educational agency
  • All new coaches must complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course online and submit a certificate of completion by June 30th
  • All coaches must hold a current certificate in CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid
  • Coaches must complete the basic first aid course when renewing or completing CPR/AED certification
  • All coaches must obtain a Heat Acclimatization Awareness and Wellness certificate or equivalent, renewed annually
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY
  • Skills required include operating office equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records, using office software, and managing team equipment.
  • Knowledge required includes effective training methodologies, understanding of legal and safety regulations, and proficiency with digital administration tools.
  • Ability required includes scheduling activities, analyzing data, working with diverse groups, problem‑solving, and communicating technical information to non‑technical audiences.
RESPONSIBILITY
  • Work under limited supervision using standardized practices
  • Provide information and advise others
  • Operate within a defined budget and utilize resources from other work units when necessary
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; climbing; balancing; stooping; kneeling; crouching; and crawling.
  • Approximately 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing during the season.
  • Environment includes potential exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

EVALUATION PROCEDURE

The Director of Athletics will complete a written evaluation at the end of each season. The evaluation informs the coach's status for the following season.

LEADERSHIP AND CULTURE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Organize coaching staff and practices
  • Communicate with coaches and Director
  • Adhere to district and school policies
  • Maintain parent and community rapport
  • Supervise student‑athletes during practices, games, bus travel, and locker rooms
  • Instruct proper care and use of equipment
  • Display enthusiasm toward student‑athletes and the sport
  • Enforce fair, firm, and consistent conduct on and off the field
  • Promote positive sportsmanship
  • Attend meetings and clinics as required
  • Prepare and distribute guidelines and rules for staff and athletes
  • Oversee safety conditions of the facility and submit work orders as needed
