Job description

Qualified Coaches and/or Players: Coaching experience preferred; at least two years of high school varsity coaching or equivalent required.

Certifications: Valid CPR and First Aid card, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certification or Positive Coaching Alliance, Diocesan Safe Environment Training, current fingerprint card, concussion training, heat and illness prevention, sudden cardiac arrest training, and NFHS health and safety courses.

Approved By: The principal as recommended by the Athletic Director and recruited by the Varsity Head Coach.

Supervises: Student‑athletes assigned and portions of the athletic program as determined by the Varsity Head Coach.

Job Goals: Carry out the aims and objectives of the sports program as outlined by the Varsity Head Coach while maintaining oneself as a positive Dominican role model.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with organization, planning, and implementation of practice sessions and contest game plans.
• Teach the fundamentals, system, and techniques of the particular sport along with values of good sportsmanship.
• Maintain discipline and encourage players in a non‑physical, positive manner to exhibit their God‑given talents.
• Attend all coaching staff and Athletic Department meetings as needed.
• Strive to increase morale and cooperation within the total school athletic program.
• Dress appropriately for practices and games as directed by the Varsity Head Coach and provide a positive, Catholic role model for each student‑athlete.
• Stay current on rules, regulations, and guidelines from the Athletic Department Handbook, League Constitution, AIA Code of Ethics, and national federation handbooks.
• Inform Varsity Head Coach immediately of missing student‑athletes, roster changes, and athletic injuries.
• Attend conventions and professional clinics as assigned.
• Perform duties consistent with the position, as requested, including weight‑room or locker‑room supervision, inventory assistance, equipment and uniform management, transportation supervision, fundraising, and attendance at Open House activities.
• Abide by coaching agreements as well as the AIA and school Code of Ethics.
• Foster the department and school Philosophy and Mission Statements in a spirit of assistance and presence per St. John Paul II Catholic High School teaching system.

Terms of Employment

Seasonal coaching contract approved by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.

Evaluation

Evaluated by the Varsity Head Coach and Athletic Director immediately after each season, with the results forwarded to the Principal.
