Medford High School is seeking a dedicated Athletics Director to oversee the athletic program, ensuring compliance with regulations, promoting student-athlete well-being, and leading all aspects of sports programming within the district. This position includes the management of coaches and continuous strategic assessment of the athletic program, fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.
Coordinates training for coaches and student-athletes. These should be focused on:

Coordinates and maintains school-level direct student-athlete recruitment process for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Monitors attendance and academic progress of all athletes and prepares squad lists to verify student-athlete eligibility.
Supervises and monitors students and supports student retention strategies.
Establishes a leadership program to support captains and to foster leadership in non-captain student athletes
Coordinates with coaches that progress reports are reviewed with athletes and support plans are implemented with school leadership.
Creates innovative programming for student athletes to support them beyond the field of play.
Implement policies, procedures, plans, and directives promulgated by the Medford School Committee and Central Administration in concert with the laws and regulations of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the City of Medford for the effective and efficient administration of the respective Department.
Coordinates services among school-level personnel, including gymnasium services, field assistance, medical and emergency services, game officials, scorer, timer assignments, lodging and meals when teams travel out-of-state, and uniform reconditioning
Coordinates and maintains inventory for all sports and supports the needs and implementation of all school athletic events.
Establishes game schedules and practice schedules to ensure proper use of facilities and partners with school leaders for proper coverage of student athletes and spectators.
Coordinates the eligibility of student-athletes for the Medford Public Schools and the MIAA – Eligibility and Compliance.
Provides documentation at the start of each season that all competing athletes are eligible to compete
Coordinates transportation scheduling for all athletic events.
Organizes and manages ticket sales, scorekeepers, gym managers, officials/assigners and other personnel needed during sporting events and assures facility preparation for athletic events.
Monitors, evaluates, and supports school athletic events and compiles a list of all athletic physicals and insurance for student eligibility.
Establishes and enforces health and safety procedures in consultation with the Director of Health Services and district leadership.
Leads the recruiting and hiring of all coaches, including full-time MPS employees and lay/seasonal coaches
Assumes head coaching responsibilities in the event of unfilled coaching vacancies mid-season
Maintains an ongoing strategic assessment of the Athletic Program
Creates a participation report following each season including demographics, athletic usage fees, and other pertinent information for the High School Principal and Superintendent of Schools.
In consultation with the Director of Health Services, provides supervision of the Athletic Trainer.
Follows cash and deposit procedures as established by the Medford Public Schools.
Management and potential expansion of the Medford Community Schools Program, including the facilities rental scheduling.
Prepares quarterly newsletter for families
Establishes start of season meeting with families to cover, at a minimum, the following topics

Attends league, MIAA, regional, and national meetings whenever possible
Communicates all pertinent information in a timely fashion to the Principal(s) and the Superintendent.
Creates and deploys an end-of-season survey for student-athletes followed by an action plan to address issues.
Promotes an inclusive culture that is free from bias, hate, or any other type of negative interaction
Assists in monitoring the usage, suitability, and proper function of equipment in collaboration with school and district leadership.
Develops and maintains a current athletic handbook listing detailed policies, procedures, and practices for both students and employees
Meets with coaches and ensures all sports have an equal and adequate opportunity to present their sports equipment budgets.
Coordinates timely security and deposits of all revenue from ticket sales.
Establish an action plan to prevent and address issues of hate in interscholastic school sports
Establishes a mentoring program for coaches new to the head coaching role. This work is done in consultation with school and district leaders.
The Medford Public Schools will be conducting an open and transparent search for the next Athletics Director to support the student athletes within the Medford Public Schools. This position also currently oversees the Medford Community Schools Program.
