Job summary

The Town of Castle Rock is seeking an Athletics Coordinator to lead recreational programs and events at the Recreation Center. You will supervise staff, coordinate tournaments, training sessions, and registrations while ensuring safety and quality participant experiences.

Responsibilities include managing logistics, vendor and facility coordination, data reporting, and promoting programs. A background in athletics/recreation and strong organizational skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; some college preferred.
  • Experience: 1–2 years coordinating athletic or recreation programs.
  • Licenses: CPR and First Aid certifications required or obtainable within 30 days.

  • Plan, develop, and coordinate recreational programs, including tournaments, leagues, and training sessions.
  • Train Athletics Coordinator I’s, volunteers, and other staff to ensure performance.
  • Assist in managing event logistics: scheduling, facility reservations, staffing, resources.
  • Monitor resources allocated to athletic programs for efficiency and cost control.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletes, and stakeholders for positive experiences and issue resolution.
  • Help oversee the registration process with accurate data entry, tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities before/during/after events.
  • Conduct inspections and report repairs or replacements timely.
  • Enforce safety protocols and compliance during athletic events.
  • Collect feedback and performance data to improve programs; assist marketing efforts.
  • Provide general support to the athletics department and perform other duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate recreational programs, including tournaments, leagues, and training sessions.
  • Train Athletics Coordinator I’s, volunteers, and other support staff, ensuring a high level of performance and program delivery.
  • Assist in managing event logistics, including scheduling, facility reservations, staffing, and coordinating necessary resources (equipment, transportation, etc.)
  • Monitor resources allocated to athletic programs ensuring efficient use and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with coaches, athletes, and other stakeholders to ensure a positive participant experience and to resolve any program-related issues and/or concerns.
  • Help oversee the registration process, ensuring accurate data entry, tracking, and reporting of participant information.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and facilities before/during/after athletic programs and events.
  • Conducts regular inspections and reports repairs and/or replacements in a timely manner and as necessary.
  • Enforces safety protocols and compliance with relevant regulations are being upheld during athletic program events.
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback, program data, and performance metrics to continuously improve and innovate athletic offerings.
  • Assists in the promotion and marketing of athletic programs.
  • Provide general support to the athletics department as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekend hours to accommodate events and practices.

Minimum Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Some college coursework in sports, recreation, or related field is preferred.

Experience: one to two (1-2) years; previous experience in athletic program coordination, sports, or recreation coordination; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in event management and/or staff coordination is preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications Required
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications are required (which can be obtained at the Recreation Center) or ability toobtain within 30 days of hire
  • Valid driver's license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of parks and recreation administration and programming.
  • Skill in supervising and instructing others.
  • Skill in interacting with public/program participants.
  • Skill in performing CPR and first aid.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Skill in operating score boards, and sports equipment.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as rule books, codes of conduct, equipment manuals, handbooks, catalogs, user guides and manuals, ACEP Volunteer Instruction Guide, and Parks & Recreation policy and procedure manuals.
  • Physical ability to officiate and coach athletic events.
  • Ability to physically access playing fields/venues for athletic events, including multiple sites during any one shift.
  • Knowledge of athletic/sports official rules and sports terminology.
  • Knowledge of sports rules and regulations for various age groups.
  • Skill in both written and oral communication for effective expression and clarity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, support staff, volunteers and coworkers.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Skill in supervising volunteer staff, which includes coaches and umpires.
  • Ability to read field and facility diagrams and dimensions.

Must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
