Job summary

Union College is seeking student athletic trainers through the Work-Study program to assist certified athletic trainers in caring for student athletes at the Achilles Center and other locations in Schenectady, NY. Responsibilities include assisting with practice, events, rehabilitation, and training room maintenance, with various shifts including days, nights, and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to work in a variety of environments (inside or outside; in rain, snow or hot weather).
  • Must be personable and able to work with a diverse population including administrators, coaches, facility personnel and student athletes.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Responsibilities

  • Practice and event setup.
  • Deliver water and emergency supplies to designated locations 1 hour before practice.
  • Deliver water and emergency supplies 2+ hours before events (3 hours for football).
  • Provide assistance to ATC before, during and after practice and/or an event. Assistance can range from helping with minor first aid to providing support in a medical emergency.
  • Assist ATC with student athlete rehabilitation.
  • Athletics Training Room maintenance includes: transport laundry to the equipment room, fold towels, roll ace wraps and neoprene; stock cabinets with tape supplies; stock freezers - ice cups; clean all tables and equipment; mop floors; monitor hydrocollator water level; Perform clerical work and attend scheduling meetings.
  • Obtain First-Aid and Adult CPR (AED) certifications.
  • If applicant is a licensed EMT in NY, additional coverage could include low-collision sport practices.

Job description

This job is only available to students who qualify for Work-Study. The purpose of student athletic trainers is to assist certified athletics trainers (ATCs) in providing the highest level of care possible to the student athletes at Union College.

  • Work available: Days, Nights, Weekends
  • Rate of pay: $9.70/hr
  • Number of Positions available: 6
Essential Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Practice and event set up
  • At least one hour prior to practice deliver water and emergency supplies to designated locations
  • At least two hours (three hours for football) prior to an event deliver water and emergency supplies to designated locations
  • Provide assistance to ATC before, during and after practice and/or an event. Assistance can range from helping with minor first aid to providing support in a medical emergency.
  • Assist ATC with student athlete rehabilitation
  • Athletics Training Room maintenance includes, but is not limited to:
  • Transport laundry to and from the equipment room
  • Fold towels, roll ace wraps and neoprene
  • Stock cabinets with necessary taping supplies
  • Stock freezers - ice cups
  • Clean all taping tables, treatment tables, pillows, exercise equipment, ice buckets, coolers and whirlpool
  • Mop floors
  • Monitor hydrocollator water levelPerform clerical work, which includes but is not limited to, data entry & filing
  • Attend bi-weekly scheduling and instructional meetings
  • Obtain First-Aid and Adult CPR (AED) certifications
  • If applicant is a licensed EMT in the state of NY - additional responsibilities could include coverage of low-collision sport practices
  • Student must demonstrate responsible decision making and first aid skills before this will occur
