CORE Occupational Medicine is seeking an Athletic Trainer (Work Ready Specialist) for our Hampton, VA site. The full-time role runs Monday–Friday, day shifts, with a focus on injury prevention, acute care, and wellness programs for employees.

You will conduct ergonomic assessments, lead warm-up routines, and provide real-time care on-site while coordinating with Safety and Medical teams to support safe return-to-work. Opportunities to advance in occupational health and wellness are available.

We are looking for a Work Ready Specialist (Athletic Trainer) to join our team at our Hampton, VA site. This is a full-time position, Mon-Fri, day shifts.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

CORE’s Work Ready Specialist is responsible for promoting injury prevention and discomfort interventions for musculoskeletal workplace injuries and illnesses within the scope of their authority as defined by OSHA’s guideline for first aid. Additionally, the Worksite Work Ready Specialist develops programs to improve overall employee health and wellness.

DUTIES:

  • Deliver proactive injury prevention and first aid triage services to address early signs of discomfort and reduce musculoskeletal injury risk.
  • Build strong relationships with employees through consistent onsite presence, fostering trust and encouraging early reporting of health concerns.
  • Design and lead job-specific warm-up, stretching, and mobility routines tailored to shift schedules and physical demands.
  • Provide onsite support for both work-related and non-work-related discomforts, offering real-time care, ergonomic coaching, and guidance.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments across various settings—including onsite, office, vehicle, and virtual—and recommend adjustments to reduce strain and improve safety.
  • Observe work activities to identify health risks and provide real-time coaching to improve body mechanics and postural habits.
  • Monitor participation and injury trends to continuously improve movement and stretching programs.
  • Track and document daily interactions, early symptom patterns, and musculoskeletal risk factors to support data-driven safety decisions.
  • Provide regular reports to the designated Project Manager, including discomfort mapping, trend analysis, and program impact metrics.
  • Support return-to-work coordination by collaborating with supervisors, safety teams, and medical providers to ensure safe reintegration.
  • Assist in identifying modified duty options aligned with employee physical restrictions and job descriptions.
  • Refer employees to secondary care providers when needed and monitor recovery progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of triage, assessments, education, and wellness activities.
  • Create and manage individualized wellness plans, including exercise and nutrition programs, to support long-term health goals.
  • Engage employees daily through wellness education, toolbox talks, Lunch & Learns, and one-on-one coaching on hydration, fatigue, nutrition, sleep, and stress management.
  • Support post-offer, pre-placement, and post-incident drug screening processes.
  • Provide support for employees on leave or extended time off to ensure continuity of services.
  • Collaborate with site leadership and across departments to support strategic initiatives, internal training, client-facing events, and emergency response efforts.
  • Use available technology to enhance delivery of injury prevention and wellness services.
  • Apply OSHA First Aid standards and maintain thorough knowledge of OSHA health and safety practices.
  • Adhere to all CORE policies, procedures, and quality assurance standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support CORE’s mission and operational efficiency.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or related field.

Certification & Licensures:

  • Valid Athletic Trainer license (in good standing) for each state where services are provided.
  • Current certification by NATA BOC or ability to obtain preferred.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Experience:

  • Supervised clinical experience meeting the requirements for Athletic Trainer license required.
  • Minimum 1 year of customer service/patient care experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in musculoskeletal injury prevention and first aid.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of on-site work (e.g., lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent standing, walking, squatting).

Preferred Experience:

  • 1–3 years in industrial or office ergonomics, industrial sports medicine, functional employment testing, job task analysis, orthopedics, wellness, or occupational health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Ergonomic Certification or formal training.
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer in good standing.
  • FMS Level 1 or higher certification.
