Job summary

Essentia Health in Duluth, MN seeks an Athletic Trainer in a surgical orthopedics clinic. Responsibilities include evaluation, education, treatment, and consultation under orthopedic surgeon supervision.

Qualifications

  • BOC certification required upon hire.
  • CAATE accredited athletic training program graduate with successful completion of BOC certification examination.
  • OTC or BCS-O certification preferred upon hire, or ability to sit for either exam after hire.
  • Registered by Board of Medical Practice per state guidelines*.
  • Certification in BLS/CPR.
  • New graduates may begin orientation but cannot perform duties until licensure is active within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Management and Administration of Physician Practice
  • Anticipate needs and preferences of the provider
  • Liaise between multi-disciplinary health care team
  • Proficient use of Epic EMR
  • Schedule patient appointments per provider template
  • Patient throughput and triage
  • Present pertinent patient information to provider
  • Aid in clinic flow through communication with provider, patient, triage and staff
  • Patient care and assessment
  • Obtain thorough patient history and perform evaluations
  • Educate patients through plan of care and home exercise programs
  • Apply DME, casts, splints, and prepare injections

Job Description

Provides Athletic Training services to patients ranging from adolescent to geriatric in a surgical orthopedics clinical environment, including evaluation and assessment, education, treatment and consultation services and related patient care services under the supervision of the orthopedic surgeon.

Education Qualifications
  • Athletic training program graduate

Daily Responsibilities
  • Management and Administration of Physician Practice
  • Effectively anticipate needs and preferences of the provider
  • Be the liaison between multi-disciplinary health care team members
  • Proficient use of Epic EMR
  • Schedule patient appointments per provider template
  • Patient Throughput
  • Patient triage
  • Present pertinent patient information to provider
  • Aid in flow of clinic by communicating with provider, patient, triage, and staff; reviewing patient charts, and patient education.

  • Secure thorough and relevant patient history
  • Perform patient assessment, evaluation, and testing
  • Patient education through plan of care
  • Demonstrate and administer home exercise programs (HEPs)
  • Apply durable medical equipment (DME)
  • Apply casts and splints
  • Prepare injections

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm/5:00pm

Licensure/Certification Qualifications
  • BOC certification required upon hire.
  • CAATE accredited athletic training program graduate with successful completion of BOC certification examination.
  • OTC or BCS-O certification preferred upon hire, or ability to sit for either exam after hire.
  • Registered by Board of Medical Practice per state guidelines*
  • Certification in BLS/CPR
  • Basic computer competency skills are expected for this position
  • * New graduates of Athletic Training program may begin orientation, but they may not perform athletic trainer duties until state licensure is active.
  • For new graduates, state licensure application must be submitted prior to start date and will be required within 90 days of hire.

Compensation Range: $54,038.40 - $81,057.60
