Job summary

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group in the United States is seeking an Athletic Trainer/Therapist to support our Performance Medicine team. You will provide rehabilitation services to high-performance artists, apply current practice and research, and collaborate with coaches to minimize injuries.

Reporting to the Artistic Director and PMED leadership, you will manage medical documentation, respond to emergencies, and adapt to a variable schedule while maintaining artist confidentiality.

Qualifications

• University degree in Athletic Therapy or Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy (Master’s degree preferred).
• Current CPR/AED Certification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant clinical musculoskeletal experience.
• Fluent in English; French or Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver rehabilitation services to Cirque du Soleil artists.
• Provide emergency response care in a professional manner.
• Maintain medical documentation and confidentiality per standards.
• Collaborate with Coaching and Artistic teams on injury prevention and reintegration.
• Refer to medical providers when appropriate and coordinate care.

Athletic Trainer/Therapist

Performance Medicine

We are looking for our next Athletic Trainer/Therapist to bring support to our Performance Medicine team. In this position, you will be responsible for providing optimal rehabilitation services to Cirque du Soleil high performance artists, demonstrate all unifying principles of the Performance Medicine Department, deliver current professional practice and research specific to performance medicine. The ideal candidate for this position will have a team player mindset as well as the ability to handle contingencies under pressure, quickly adapt to unexpected situations and work with a variable schedule. They should have effective and timely communication skills to ensure the health and safety of all artist needs.

Reporting operationally to the Artistic Director and under the governance of the Head Thearpist and the Manager of Human Performance Services – Performance Medicine, you will be directly responsible to:

Clinical:

• Ensure that all relevant medical care, prevention, rehabilitation, and health care administration is being delivered to the highest possible standard of care and confidentiality, while relevant to the functional demand of our artists and environment
• Deliver emergency response care in a safe and professional manner;
• Achieve and maintain an appropriate CdS approved First aid and Trauma Management Certificate, to work as first responder and incident lead for training and in-show cover;
• Stimulate and foster close functional relationships with Coaches and other Artistic team members to establish and implement programs directed at the reduction of injury in an effort to achieve optimal performance, relevant to an artists’ specific needs;
• Make recommendations for psychological and nutritional referrals, when appropriate, for medical conditions;
• Ensure cost effective and timely referrals to appropriate medical providers for any relevant illness or injury.
• Collaborate with the Coaching Team to create moments of exchange for feedback and problem solving in regard to strength and conditioning, reintegration planning, and performance support.
• Ensure that all medical information, interactions and interventions are being documented and communicated as per medico-legal and CdS specific requirements including but not limited to C-fit and completion of necessary legal/insurance documents, while making sure artist-therapist confidentiality is being adhered to at all times;
• Ensure that artists are accompanied to medical appointments whenever indicated;
• Actively participate in medical consultations where appropriate.
• Collaborate with artistic team, and attend appropriate meetings etc., to ensure clear communication regarding PMED recommendations for artist functional restrictions;
• Maintain a direct link with the show’s appropriate representative regarding insurance and worker's compensation needs; ensuring all necessary information, forms and reports are communicated and delivered in a timely and organized manner.
• Implement appropriate Injury Risk Reduction strategies;

Operational:

• Perform all relevant tasks inherent to the position of PMED Therapist in a professional, ethical manner and at the highest possible standard of care, in alignment with your professional licensure or CdS Standard, whichever is higher;
• Communicate with the Artistic Team regarding injury timelines to allow show to determine necessity for temporary replacements; provide recommendations for external care when appropriate;
• Collaborate with Head Therapist and PMED Manager to identify show specific injury trends for potential analysis and solutions;

General:

• Adhere to the direction of, and timely communication with, the Head Therapist and PMED Manager;
• Create and foster interdependent relationships with the members of the artistic and coaching teams while being responsible for the active and professional contribution of the PMED department to functional decision-making processes (Human Performance Risk Management);
• Foster a positive, stimulating and ethical working environment for the PMED Department
• Promptly convey all pertinent medical information to the Head Therapist and PMED Manager while actively participating in periodic meetings and reporting;
• Comply with all CdS Performance Medicine governance standards, Performance Medicine Standards of Professional Practice (SoPP) and audit requirements;
• Actively participate in continuing professional development opportunities, to remain an expert in therapy

Requirements of the post-holder:

• University degree in Athletic Therapy or Physical Therapy or Physiotherapy (Master’s degree preferred) and credentialed to work in Florida;
• Valid CPR/AED Certification (additional Emergency Sports First Responder or EMT courses preferred);
• Minimum 5 years' relevant clinical musculoskeletal experience;
• Fluent in English (French or Spanish an assesset);
• Experience of working with Performing artists/Performance athletes and coaches in a professional environment is an asset
• Able to work in a culturally diverse environment;
• Able to quickly adapt to unexpected situations and work flexibly with a variable schedule whilst under pressure;
• Able to work at height or in confined spaces, including as Lead of Emergency Response Team
