Job summary

St. HOPE is seeking a High School Game Day Athletic Trainer to support injury prevention, evaluation, and immediate care during Sacramento Charter High’s fall, winter, and spring home games.

The trainer will work with the Athletic Director to ensure equitable coverage across teams and may assist with practices and travel as needed. Requirements include BOC certification with California licensure or pending, current CPR/AED/First Aid, and HS athletic experience.

Qualifications

  • Must hold BOC certification with CA licensure or be pursuing licensure.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
  • Experience with high school or youth athletes preferred.
  • Knowledge of injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pregame prep, tape, wrap, and equipment checks for athletes.
  • Evaluate and treat injuries; triage on gameday and during practice as needed.
  • Monitor recovery, assist rehab, and communicate injury status to coaches and families.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation and records.
  • Serve as liaison among athletes, coaches, parents, and medical staff.
  • Represent Sac High positively during games and events.
  • Attend select practices as agreed with the Athletic Director.

Job description

High School Game Day Athletic Trainer

Position Summary: The Gameday Athletic Trainer will assist in the prevention, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries during Sacramento Charter High’s Fall, Winter, and Spring home games. Additional assistance for practice, conditioning, and away games may be requested based on student needs. The Trainer works with the Athletic Director to create an equitable calendar and distribution of services among all teams.

Responsibilities
  • Pregame Prep: Tape, wrap, and stretch athletes as needed; ensure proper fitting of protective equipment.
  • Emergency Medical/Gameday Care: Evaluate, treat, and triage injuries; fabricate protective gear; apply appropriate support taping/wrapping.
  • Follow‑Up Medical Care: Monitor recovery, assist with rehabilitation, and communicate injury status to coaches, athletes, and families.
  • Medical Documentation: Maintain accurate injury, treatment, and rehab records.
  • Communication: Serve as a liaison among athletes, coaches, parents, and medical professionals.
  • Brand Promotion: Represent Sac High positively on and off the field.
  • Practice Coverage: Attend select practices as agreed upon with the Athletic Director.
Essential Skills & Abilities

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (with assistance if needed).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
Training, Education and Experience
  • BOC certification or equivalent, with possession or pending acquisition of California state licensure/certification/registration.
  • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
Highly Desired
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field.
  • NFHS training in Concussion in Sports, Heat Illness Prevention, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
  • Experience working with high school or youth athletes.
Schedule Expectations
  • Must be available for evening and weekend games.
  • Occasional travel to away games and coverage for select practices.
Pay
  • Stipend starts at $2000 per season, depending on experience and certifications.
Work Type

We anticipate the selected individual will be hired as a contractor or vendor at a set hourly or game rate. The position does not include medical or retirement benefits. The individual may secure other employment as long as it does not interfere with the contracted work.
