Job summary

Bassett High School seeks an Athletic Trainer to provide prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for students and athletes within the district.

Under the Athletic Director and Principal, you will deliver first aid, manage injuries, coordinate equipment, maintain records, and support conditioning and return‑to‑play programs; a Bachelor's in athletic training and current NATA certification are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field is required.
  • Six months of paid or volunteer athletic training experience preferred.
  • Current NATA certification and CPR/First Aid certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for students and athletes.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, parents, coaches and physicians.
  • Provide immediate first aid including taping, bracing and padding as needed.
  • Develop rehabilitation programs and supervise conditioning and return‑to‑play.
  • Maintain injury records and coordinate equipment fitting and inventory.

Hours: 6 Hours/Day (Monday-Friday 2:30 PM - 9:00 PM, hours may vary for Athletic Events)

Months: 10.5

Location: Bassett High School

Eligibility Lists: One eligibility list will be created from this recruitment. This is a continuous examination process and may close at any time, with little or no notice. An application review may occur at any time and qualified candidates who have submitted applications will be invited to participate in the testing process. Qualified applicants submitting applications after the review date will be considered in the next examination process. This list will be utilized to fill any vacancies that may occur during the one year life of the Eligibility List, which may include temporary positions. The list generated from this recruitment will be used to fill both substitute and permanent vacancies in the District.

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of the Athletic Director and the supervision of the High School Principal, provide instruction on the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment and rehabilitation of physical injuries to students and athletes engaged in various school sports and physical education activities; serve as a liaison between the students, parents, coaches and physicians in evaluation, management, care, and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Identifies, evaluates and provides immediate first aid medical attention including taping, wrapping, bracing, strapping, and padding to prevent and/or minimize the risk of injury or re-injury.

Recommends and implements appropriate preventative measures to avoid and/or minimize the risk of incurring athletic injuries, illness and conditions.

Develops and implements individualized rehabilitation and reconditioning programs for injured students, at one's own initiative or as directed by a physician.

Assists students with specialized therapeutic exercises by performing demonstrations and ensuring students' understanding of proper exercise techniques and procedures.

Evaluates, determines and provides recommendation on the eligibility of athletes to return to athletic activities following injury rehabilitation.

Assists with physical examinations and physical fitness screening.

Follows Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations regarding confidential student information.

Maintain records related to student injuries, treatments, progress and assigned activities; prepare student injury reports and documentation.

Coordinates the issuance, proper fitting, collection and inventory of all regular and protective equipment.

Assists in an off-season physical training, conditioning, maintenance of physical fitness, and rehabilitation as required.

Implements physician instructions related to athletic injuries and treatment.

May counsel and advise athletes on health related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse

May assist in receiving, storing, issuing and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment utilized in athletic programs.

May provide direction to student workers/assistants

Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

A Bachelor's Degree, from an accredited college or university, in athletic training, health, physical education, exercise science, kinesiologyor a related field.

EXPERIENCE

At least six months of paid and/or volunteer experience working in an athletic training environment.

LICENSES AND OTHER CERTIFICATIONS
  • A Valid National Athletic Trainers Association Board Certification
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate
  • American Red Cross First Aid Certificate
  • A Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
WORKING CONDITIONS
ENVIRONMENT

Outdoor work environment; subject to seasonal heat and cold and adverse weather conditions.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

Stand and walk for extended periods of time over rough or uneven surfaces; kneel and bend at the waist; climb; lift, carry and/or move heavy materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds; manipulate hands and fingers to operate athletic equipment
