Job summary

Salem State University is seeking an onsite athletic trainer to join our sports medicine staff, supporting 15 varsity teams and promoting student-athlete health, performance and wellbeing. The role involves direct care, education, and collaboration with coaches and medical staff in a fast-paced collegiate setting.

The position is temporary, full-time for 10 months with non-traditional hours including nights, weekends and travel with one high-risk team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training or related field.
  • One year of collegiate athletic training experience or equivalent.
  • Current BOC Certification.
  • Possess or be eligible to acquire Massachusetts Athletic Trainer Licensure.
  • Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive athletic training services and support for 15 varsity teams.
  • Assist in implementing a comprehensive sports medicine program for student-athletes.
  • Collaborate with NCAA Division III student-athletes and staff in a hands-on setting.

Overview

Salem State University's Athletics program is built on the belief that student-athletes deserve the same quality of care and preparation as any competitor in the country. As a member of our sports medicine staff, you'll play a meaningful role in keeping that commitment — working directly with NCAA Division III student-athletes to support their health, performance, and long-term wellbeing.

Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer, you will provide comprehensive athletic training services and assist in the implementation of a comprehensive sports medicine program to 15 varsity athletic teams. This is a hands‑on, student‑facing position with genuine scope to shape how care is delivered on campus and potentially serve as a preceptor for the MSAT program

Please Note: This is a temporary, full‑time,10-month position with non‑traditional hours including nights, weekends and travel with one high risk team.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. One year of collegiate athletic training experience or equivalent
  3. Current BOC Certification
  4. Possess or be eligible to acquire Massachusetts Athletic Trainer Licensure
  5. Professional Rescuer CPR/AED certification
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Excellent communications skills; both written and oral
  2. Ability to successfully use and integrate MS Office or similar products in the working environment
  3. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends
Working Location

This is an onsitepositionin Salem, MA with on‑campus, in‑person responsibilities,which may require regular work on evenings and weekends.

Employment is contingent upon a completed background and CORI check satisfactory to the university.
