Basic Statement of Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the following areas:
- Risk management and the prevention of athletic injuries; recognition, evaluation, and assessment of athletic injuries; immediate care and first aid; treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning; healthcare administration; and professional development. Responsible for team coverage and daily operation of athletic training facilities. Evening, night, and weekend work required. Must adhere to confidentiality regulations.
- Responsible for athletic care at Allegany camps, clinics, and tournaments.
Essential Functions
- Making decisions on all injuries and illnesses, including obtaining medical histories and physical examinations, and determining necessary interventions.
- Providing first aid, managing acute injuries, and recognizing serious or life-threatening conditions.
- Maintaining CPR and First Aid certifications through recognized organizations.
- Determining when to activate EMS as per emergency protocols.
- Promoting athletic training as a professional discipline and monitoring environmental safety conditions.
- Selecting appropriate protective and orthopedic equipment.
- Preparing athletes for events with treatments, stretching, and taping.
- Managing event safety, including hydration and environmental emergency prevention.
- Evaluating athletes for predisposing conditions and designing rehab plans.
- Coordinating athlete insurance and processing claims.
- Implementing emergency protocols and injury prevention programs.
- Collaborating with coaches on injury reports, examinations, and safety recommendations.
- Participating in departmental assessment and data collection.
- Working approximately 10 hours weekly in the Fitness Center as needed.
- Completing annual inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Advising athletes, parents, and coaches on health matters within professional scope.
- Occasional travel with teams, with evaluations at season start.
- Overseeing athletic training for sports camps and clinics.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field.
- Certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) required.
- Recent graduates must obtain a Master's degree due to updated program requirements.
