Job summary

Albemarle County Public Schools is seeking a certified High School Athletic Trainer to support student-athletes in Charlottesville, VA. You will lead injury prevention, provide immediate care, guide rehabilitation, and educate athletes on wellness and performance.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college in athletic training or related field.
  • Must hold or be eligible for Virginia licensure as an athletic trainer.
  • BOC Certification required; two years of athletic training experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct event coverage at high school practices and contests.
  • Provide on-field assessment, immediate care, and emergency response.
  • Design and supervise rehabilitation; manage return-to-activity protocols.
  • Maintain communication with parents, coaches, physicians, and therapists.
  • Educate athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and conditioning.
  • Maintain records and manage AT room inventory and supplies.

Are you an enthusiastic, skilled Athletic Trainer looking to make a meaningful impact in student-athletes' lives? Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) is seeking a certified High School Athletic Trainer to serve as a vital member of our team.

In this role, you will be on the front lines of student athletics—leading injury prevention, providing immediate care, guiding rehabilitation, and educating student-athletes on wellness and performance. You will work closely with physicians, school administrators, coaches, and parents to keep our athletes safe, healthy, and performing at their best.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Event Coverage: Attend high school athletic practices, home contests, and post-season events as directed by the Athletic Director.
  • Care & Emergency Response: Perform on-field assessments of acute injuries, provide immediate care, apply appropriate treatment modalities, and activate emergency medical protocols when necessary.
  • Rehabilitation & Return-to-Play: Design and supervise customized rehabilitation programs; manage safe, step-by-step return-to-activity protocols.
  • Communication & Coordination: Maintain consistent communication with parents, coaches, treating physicians, and therapists regarding athlete status and medical updates.
  • Education & Prevention: Instruct athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and body conditioning; assist in developing educational materials for the school community.
  • Program Administration: Maintain detailed records of treatments, injuries, and referrals while managing the Athletic Training Room inventory and supplies.k

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Athletic Training or a related field. Must hold or be eligible for licensure as an athletic trainer in the State of Virginia. BOC Certified. Two years of athletic training experience preferred, but not required.
