Job summary

Rhode Island College seeks an Athletic Facility and Events Management and Operations Assistant to support the daily operations of athletic and recreation facilities. This full-time, calendar-year position reports to the Assistant Director of Athletic and Recreation Facilities and ensures venues are safe, well-maintained, and ready for intercollegiate events, campus programs, and community activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Minimum of three years of progressive experience in management/maintenance of athletic facilities at the intercollegiate level.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and facilities operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate management of playing fields and facilities for intercollegiate, institutional and community events.
  • Support intercollegiate contest management: setup, teardown, and ticketing.
  • Coordinate work orders with Physical Plant and outside vendors.
  • Maintain safety inspections and facility equipment.
  • Ensure facility rules and hours are communicated.
  • Oversee facilities for contracted events and assist with camps/fundraising.

Position Overview

The Athletic Facility and Events Management and Operations Assistant is a full-time, calendar-year position at Rhode Island College that supports the management, maintenance, and daily operations of athletic and recreation facilities. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletic and Recreation Facilities, the Assistant helps ensure facilities are safe, well-maintained, and prepared for intercollegiate athletics, campus programs, and community events.

The Assistant coordinates event preparation and operations, including scheduling, setup, staffing, ticket sales, and teardown. Responsibilities also include supporting the care of outdoor athletic fields and courts, maintaining facility equipment, conducting safety inspections, and coordinating work orders with the College’s Physical Plant and outside vendors. The role communicates facility rules and operating hours and assists with departmental fundraising activities and camps.

Primary Purpose

This position will assist and support the overall management and operations of athletic and recreation facilities, including scheduling, setup, teardown, security, and maintenance.

  • Coordinate and assist in the management of playing fields and facilities to accommodate both intercollegiate, institutional and community activities including set-up, staffing, etc.
  • Support all intercollegiate contest management functions (i.e., set-up, tear down, ticket sales, etc.).
  • Coordinate all work orders with the College’s Physical Plant and outside vendors to ensure that work is completed in an expeditious manner.
  • Implement a plan to insure the maintenance and safety of all Departmental facilities (to include ongoing inspections).
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of athletic/recreational facility equipment (i.e., scoreboards, goal posts, bleachers, fencing, mowing equipment, tractors, etc.).
  • Ensure that facility rules, regulations, and hours of operation are properly communicated.
  • Directly responsible to support the care, upkeep and maintenance of the College’s tennis, baseball, softball, soccer, and outdoor track facilities.
  • Responsible for oversight of facilities as it relates to intercollegiate, recreation and community based contracted events (i.e., practices, contests, RIIL events, Open House, etc.).
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director.
  • Assist in departmental fundraising activities including camps.
Occasional Duties

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director and Director.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of constituents.
  • Knowledge about the specific maintenance requirements of athletic facilities and fields gained by attendance at appropriate seminars.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Knowledge of the NCAA and its rules, regulations and philosophies; with specific knowledge as it relates to facilities.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Valid Certification in First Aid and CPR or agreement to obtain.
  • Valid RI State Fire Marshall Event Oversight certification or agreement to obtain.
