Class Purpose
Under general supervision, provides essential support to allathletic and physical education programs to ensure their efficientand safe operation. Responsibilities include storing, issuing,maintaining, repairing, and collecting athletic equipment,uniforms, towels, supplies, assisting with athletic events set-upand tear-down; and assisting with equipment needs for classes andfor facility-use customers for community events; maintains athleticequipment inventory and records, and requests maintenance servicesfor athletic facilities such as the locker room, fieldhouse, etc.Typical duties include washing, drying, folding, and coordinatingthe distribution of practice and game uniforms for all athleticteams. May be required to work evenings and weekends on campus orto support athletic team travel to competitions.
Examples of Duties
Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Oversee the daily operation of laundry, including washing,drying, folding, and coordinating the distribution of practice andgame uniforms, towels, equipment, and supplies for the athleticteams.
- Assist with issuing receiving, storing, and checking athleticequipment for a variety of sports.
- Match purchase orders to invoices, inspect items for qualityand condition, monitor changes in purchase orders; communicate withvendors to help resolve problems with equipment received. Assist inmonitoring budgets and preparing purchase requisitions for thepurchase of athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Assist withrecordkeeping related to purchases, equipment and facilityoperations.
- Clean, organize, and maintain athletic equipment, uniforms, andsupplies.
- Determine the need for replacement of various equipment;research vendors to determine replacement availability; recommendthe purchase of athletic and safety equipment; assist incoordinating the ordering and purchasing of equipment; maintainproper inventory and records.
- Helmet and shoulder pad fitting and basic repair.
- Operate a computer to manage inventory, maintain locker andlock assignments, and produce reports.
- Oversee security and operation of locker room areas; issue andmaintain lockers and locks; make requests for maintenance offacilities as needed.
- Set up and break down equipment for athletic events, classesand community facility rentals in accordance with sport competitionspecifications.
- Provide assistance and support with scoring systems duringathletic events, classes and facility rentals as necessary.
- Assist students, staff, and faculty by responding to inquiriesand resolving problems related to athletics.
- Maintain positive relationships with campus administrativeleadership, faculty, students, community members, and gameofficials with respect, integrity, and support for the diversecommunity we serve.
- Train and provide work directions to student workers.
- Assist with logistics for athletes and equipment to away gamesas required; assist with packing, loading equipment for travelgames and events.
- Operate a variety of equipment including vans, cars, utilitytask vehicles like carts, vacuum cleaner, washing machine, dryer,dolly, computer, calculators and game day technology.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Two (2) years of experience in the handling and maintenance ofathletic equipment and supplies.
- Valid Class C driver's license and safe driving record.
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnicbackgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff, andcommunity.
Desirable Qualifications
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
Knowledge of:
- Equipment and supplies used in team and individual sportsprograms.
- Methods of maintenance, storage, and repair of athleticequipment.
- Procedures for inventory control and procurement.
- Athletic programs at community colleges and the basic rules ofathletic events.
- Helmet and shoulder pad fitting and basic repair.
- Office procedures and use of standard software and computersystems.
- Principles of safety, supervision, and training.
- Safe work practices.
Ability to:
- Receive, issue, collect, store, and inventory athleticequipment and uniforms.
- Perform minor equipment repairs and assess the need forreplacements.
