- Classification: Full time for 2025-2026 school year
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus scheduled events with required attendance.
Overview
The Athletic Director is part of the school administration and provides leadership, oversight, collaboration and cooperation for all athletic programming at St. Pius X High School. Sports include baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball among others. The Athletic Director is an active and visible representative of the department and is responsible for the well-being of all athletes, coaches and key support staff within the department. This position ultimately ensures the success of the athletics program and it is the role of the Athletic Director and supporting staff to instill the mission of the school throughout the program.

Responsibilities
- Organizes, directs, and promotes an interscholastic athletic program that is an integral part of the total educational program.
- Develops specific programs and activities for the athletic department to promote, requiring the proper behavior of student athletes, coaches, parents and spectators at athletic-related events.
- Provides clearly defined, written policies and procedures for the effective administration of the program. Athletics handbooks for students/parents and coaches should be distributed, communicated, reviewed, and updated annually in collaboration with athletic department personnel and the school leadership.
- Emphasizes the importance of good character and strong academic standing for all participants in athletics.
- Supervises student athletes and their safety during athletic functions and while on the premises afterwards.
- Maintains appropriate filing and display of records, results and awards.
- Conducts annual inventory of the department, including uniforms and equipment for teams and groups.
- Files annual records of physical examinations for all athletes prior to participation and communicates with coaches regarding ineligibility due to lack of physical examination.
- Ensures prayer, pledge and and/or national anthem open at varsity home games and other events as needed.
- Teaches no more than two class periods unless given a different campus assignment at the school leadership’s discretion.
- Manages the hiring and performance of all staff in the athletics vision, ensuring the completion of contracts, job functions and annual reviews.
- Implements all league and school rules, regulations, policies and protocols as defined by the school handbooks and league/sports associations.
- Collaborates with the Director of Finance to maintain a balanced budget and ensure a fiscal responsibility among athletics staff.
- Coordinates and attends meetings and events related to the department such as signing days, awards celebrations, season overviews, etc.
- Assures all games and events are operated in a safe and professional manner, compliant with league and school regulations.
- Creates and distributes weekly game schedules, weekly internal reports, content for the weekly newsletter, summary for periodic board reports, approved schedules, athletic documents, league information, etc.
- Works with the Director of Admissions and the Director of Communications Director to help drive marketing initiatives that promote St. Pius X High School and the athletics program.
- Complies with NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA requirements and recruiting practices to foster strong and positive relationships with college and university athletic departments.
- Oversees the Booster Club activity and serves as the liaison in meetings, with the coaches and other school groups. Also works with the President and Advancement office to provide written guidelines, explaining the Booster Club program and roles, as well as the school guidelines for fundraising, admissions, marketing and mission.
- Assists with the management of fields and athletic facilities (including for personal and private use), ensuring all usage is documented according to protocol.
- Directs the Sports Summer Camps while following all protocols and procedures in accordance with SPX policy.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary by school leadership.
