Job summary

University of Mount Union in Alliance, OH seeks an Athletic Director to lead the intercollegiate program in alignment with NCAA Division III and Ohio Athletic Conference guidelines. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees coaches, athletic training, marketing, fundraising, and strength and conditioning, including compliance and game-day operations.

Athletic Director University of Mount Union

Description

This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and implements all aspects of the University's intercollegiate athletic program, as part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”) Division III guidelines. Must have a clear understanding of NCAA Division III rules and philosophy, and a commitment to recruiting, developing and graduating quality student-athletes. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all coaches and athletic department personnel, including, but not limited to administration, team sports, athletic training, athletic communications, marketing, fund-raising, and strength and conditioning.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the overall administration and management of the University's athletic program, in accordance with NCAA Division III and Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) rules, regulations, and guidelines. Manage the daily operations of the program, including budgeting and expense management, practice and game scheduling, travel, facility oversight, and game day organization, including ticket sales, concessions, safety, and security. Monitor the academic progress of student athletes. Supervise the athletic staff, including administration, head coaches, assistant coaches, and other support staff. Manage the athletic training and strength and conditioning programs, equipment and facilities of the University. Act as the chief strategist for the athletic department and align the programs with the overall mission and strategic plan of the University. Foster a cooperative work environment and provide mutual support to all constituencies of the campus. Participate as a member of President's Council. Oversee the sports information and athletic communications area, including marketing, sponsorship, and website promotions. Attend NCAA and OAC conferences or meetings as a representative of the University. Represent the University's athletic program with sportsmanship, integrity and professionalism. Analyze the athletic department's various programs and make recommendations for improvements. Provide oversight of the University's Name, Image and Likeness (“NIL”) program. Monitor the athletic compliance and athlete eligibility, pursuant to NCAA Division III and OAC requirements. Promote relationships with stakeholder, such as alumni, businesses, and friends of the University for fund-raising for athletics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred, with special consideration given to degrees in Sports Administration, management, or coaching. Five years successful administrative experience in an athletic department or background in administering other athletic organizations, with special consideration given for college coaching experience. Knowledge and appreciation of NCAA Division III and OAC rules, regulations, and understanding of the philosophy and ethics of Division III departments and student athletes. Ability to successfully impart knowledge and motivate learning in student athletes. Ability to assist and provide oversight on the recruitment of student athletes. Strong, ethical leadership skills, ethical character, and interpersonal skills. Understanding of the 26 inter-collegiate sports offered by the University. Proficiency with technology applications applicable to the position Commitment to diversity. Ability to provide conflict resolution, Ability to work evenings, weekends and extended hours. Must pass a background check and be able to travel, have a valid driver's license, and be able to secure and operate University vehicles safely.
