Job summary

Actalent in Middletown, RI is seeking a Software Development Engineer to work hands-on with naval hardware and automated test equipment (ATE) systems, modernizing legacy software and contributing to government test infrastructure. This onsite contract-to-hire role requires a BS in engineering, 4+ years in ATE software, NI PXI/LabVIEW/TestStand, and the ability to obtain SECRET clearance.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing software for automated test equipment (ATE) systems.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical test and measurement concepts.
• Hands-on experience with ATE and test engineering environments.
• Proficiency with National Instruments products (PXI, LabVIEW, TestStand).
• Experience with software modification and code migration for test equipment and hardware integration.
• Proficiency in C++ for developing and maintaining test software.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation for complex legacy systems.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance up to SECRET, including meeting eligibility requirements.
• BS degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, or related engineering discipline with software development experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test software for automated test equipment (ATE) systems.
• Make progress toward a leading role on projects as you grow in the position.
• Read, reverse-engineer legacy PASCAL, translate to C++, LabVIEW, and TestStand.
• Test, checkout, and validate software to ensure reliability and compliance.
• Analyze legacy docs to modernize and improve designs.
• Become a subject matter expert on ATE software across multiple systems.
• Integrate software with NI hardware platforms (PXI and related equipment).
• Collaborate with engineers to design and implement state-of-the-art naval test systems.
• Maintain and enhance existing ATE software for performance and usability.
• Support continuous modernization of government test infrastructure.
