Job summary

The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, Virginia, is seeking personnel to support the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program. You will assist NDT instructors, help students in the lab, prepare labs, and ensure safety and readiness for hands-on training.

The role requires flexibility to work first, second, or third shifts, with some travel and off-site assignments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience with NDT methods preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support NDT instructors during lab-based instruction for the ATDM program.
  • Assist students in the lab with proper use of equipment, materials, and processes.
  • Prepare labs for instruction, including setup and teardown.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Monitor and restock consumables as needed.
  • Follow and reinforce shop safety and radiation safety practices.
  • Provide general operational and logistical support for the ATDM program.
  • Travel occasionally, as required.
  • Lab instruction includes RT, UT, MT, PT, and VT.

This position requires eligibility to access controlled unclassified and other regulated technical information in accordance with applicable federal requirements. By supporting instructors and students in the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) lab, you will help ensure labs are safe, well-equipped, and ready for instruction in a fast-paced, accelerated training environment.What You Will DoSupport NDT instructors during lab-based instruction for the ATDM programAssist students in the lab with proper use of equipment, materials, and processesPrepare labs for instruction, including setup and teardownMaintain inventory of materials, tools, and equipmentMonitor and restock consumables as neededFollow and reinforce shop safety and radiation safety practicesProvide general operational and logistical support for the ATDM programTravel occasionally, as requiredLab instruction includes the following NDT methods: Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), and Visual & Optical Testing (VT).Shift AvailabilityATDM Instructors and Technicians are assigned shifts based on training needs. Shift assignments are determined by business needs at the time of hire, performance, and tenure. This position requires flexibility to work any shift as program needs evolve. Compensation includes a shift differential based on assigned instructional hours.
