Job summary

AIS, Inc. is seeking Marine Biologists (At-Sea Monitors) to work at sea collecting data and biological samples aboard commercial fishing vessels for NMFS NEFCS.

Monitors operate on vessels ranging from 20’ to 100’, with 3-week in-person training in Falmouth, MA, and a path toward advancement into project management and field supervision. Travel within New England and Mid-Atlantic is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Experience with data entry on computers.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens, or be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Physically able as determined by a physician’s certification to perform observer duties.
• Own transportation is required.
• Commit to the program for at least one year.

Responsibilities

• Record data and collect biological samples on commercial fishing vessels.
• Attend a 3-week paid in-person training in Falmouth, MA.
• Deploy as an At-Sea Monitor aboard vessels across New England and Mid-Atlantic ports.
• Travel on trips 1–14 days, with accommodations provided.
• Maintain safety protocols and equipment during data collection.
• Assist in documenting gear types and activities.
