Job summary

A.I.S., Inc. is seeking Marine Biologists (At-Sea Monitors) to work at sea collecting and recording data and biological samples for NMFS NEFCS aboard commercial fishing vessels in New England and Mid-Atlantic ports.

Primary duties include recording data on gear, catch, and incidental takes, following established sampling protocols. Training consists of a 3-week in-person session in Falmouth, MA, after which monitors deploy from coastal ports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; U.S. citizens or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Experience with data entry on computers; physically able to perform observer duties.
• Candidates must commit to the program for at least one year.
• Bachelor's degree in biology or related field; 30 biology credits and 6 marine science credits preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect and record data and biological samples on fishing vessels.
• Monitor gear types and fishing activity to support NMFS NEFCS.
• Attend a 3-week paid in-person training in Falmouth, MA.
• Deploy as an At-Sea Monitor to support groundfish fisheries and offshore deployment.
