Job summary

Santa Barbara County Education Office is seeking an instructional support aide to assist teachers and clinicians in a supervised, at‑risk youth setting. You will provide academic support, prepare instructional materials, and help maintain a safe learning environment.

You will participate in screenings, assessments, and behavior management under teacher guidance and collaborate with families and probation staff to support student progress.

Qualifications

• Education includes a high school diploma and a passing score on a relevant assessment.
• 48+ semester units may substitute for the competency exam.
• Ability to assist with reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
• Ability to work with at‑risk youth in a supervised setting.
• Respect for confidentiality and appropriate record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional support in core subjects and prepare age‑appropriate materials.
• May conduct intakes, proctor assessments, and score tests; maintain records.
• Assist with screening for weapons/substances and monitor student activity.
• Observe behavior, reinforce positive discipline, and document incidents.
• Communicate with parents and collaborate with teachers and probation staff.
