Job summary

Theuniversityunion is recruiting an Assistant Swim Coach to support the East Senior 1 group at the YMCA in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Hours are Mon–Fri 3:15–6:30 PM and Sat 6:00–8:30 AM, with additional early morning shifts; this is a part-time, non-exempt position.

Responsibilities include planning practices, attending meets, tracking attendance, and supporting recruitment efforts; certifications in CPR, First Aid, and USA Swimming are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year or more of coaching experience or swimming-related experience.
• Maintain certifications including CPR, First Aid, and USA Swimming.
• Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices per program guidelines.
• Attend swim meets as assigned.
• Maintain attendance records and skill lists; recommend group placements.
• Serve in substitute roles to cover other practice groups.
• Participate in staff trainings and assist with events and recruitment.

Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Swim Coach reports directly to their Site Director, Head Age Group Coach, and Director of Competitive Swimming. This position is responsible for the role of coach for the specific training groups assigned and will support the Lead Site Coach with the achievement of the Mission, Vision, and goals of the overall YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Job Schedule (Hours) Mon through Friday 3:15-6:30 PM, Sat 6:00-8:30 AM. MWF 5:30-6:25 AM

Additional Information: This is a part time assistant coach position working with the East Senior 1 group.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with program strategies, objectives, guidelines, and policies.
• Attends Swim Meets as assigned.
• Maintain attendance records for swimmers and practice log/skill list for each training group, and make recommendations for training group level placement and changes.
• Serve in substitute role as assignedto cover other practice groupswhen regular coach cannot be present.
• Attends bi-annual All-Staff training meetings as scheduled
• Assist in special projects such as, but not limited to, banquets, fundraisers, and award ceremonies.
• Participates in swimmer recruitment and retentions efforts.
• Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Develops friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 1 year or more of coaching experience, swimming experience, or experience related to the sport of swimming.
• Maintain necessary certifications includingbut not limited to Basic Life Support (CPR, First Aid and Oxygen), USA Swimming Certification (Athlete Protection, Coach’s Safety, Coaching 101 & 201, Rules and Regulations), and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving.
• Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Multi-lingual desired but not required.
