Job summary

The YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team is seeking an Assistant Swim Coach for part-time, non-exempt employment. The role supports the Lead Site Coach and will coach for assigned training groups, with responsibilities aligned to the team's mission and goals.

Responsibilities include planning and conducting practices, attending meets, maintaining attendance and skill logs, and covering other groups as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year coaching or related swimming experience.
• Must maintain CPR/First Aid, USA Swimming certifications, and YMCA Competitive Swimming training.
• Ability to work with children of all ages; multilingual a plus.
• Ability to relate to diverse groups; attendance at staff trainings.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with program strategies, objectives, guidelines, and policies.
• Attends Meets as assigned.
• Maintain attendance records for swimmers and practice logs/skill lists for each training group; recommend training group level placements.
• Serve in substitute role as assigned to cover other practice groups.
• Attends bi-annual All-Staff training meetings as scheduled.
• Assist in special projects such as banquets, fundraisers, and award ceremonies.
• Participate in swimmer recruitment and retentions efforts.
• Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Develop friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
• Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Swim Coach reports dir ectly to their Site Director, Head Age Group Coach, and Director of Competitive Swimming . This position is responsible for the role of coach for the specific training groups assigned and will support the Lead Site Coach with the achievement of the Mission, Vision, and goals of the overall YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Monday - Saturday

4:00 - 7:15 PM

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with program strategies, objectives, guidelines, and policies.

Attends Swim Meets a s assigned .

Maintain attendance records for swimmers and practice log/skill list for each training group, and make recommendations for training group level placement and changes.

Serve in substitute role as assigned to cover other practice groups when regular coach cannot be present.

Attends bi-annual All-Staff training meetings as scheduled

Assist in special projects such as, but not limited to, banquets, fundraisers, and award ceremonies.

Participates in swimmer recruitment and retentions efforts.

Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 1 year or more of coaching experience, swimming experience, or experience related to the sport of swimming.

Maintain necessary certifications including but not limited to Basic Life Support (CPR, First Aid and Oxygen), USA Swimming Certification (Athlete Protection, Coach’s Safety, Coaching 101 & 201, Rules and Regulations), and YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving.

Desire an d ability to work with children of all ages.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Multi-lingual desired but not required.
