RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Assistant Director of Patient Care (RN) for the B6 Stepdown Unit at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, NJ. The role oversees clinical operations, staff performance, and quality initiatives during night shifts in a salaried, full-time capacity.

Required are a NJ RN license, a nursing degree, cardiac/telemetry experience, and 1–3 years of relevant clinical practice. Leadership experience and advanced degrees are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
• New Jersey RN License required to practice in NJ.
• Cardiac or Telemetry experience preferred.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Strong communication and organizational skills required.
• 1-3 years of relevant clinical practice expected.

Responsibilities

• The Assistant Director of Patient Care will assist the Director in overseeing all clinical operations in the unit.
• Manage day-to-day clinical operations through oversight of staff and quality improvement, aiming for cost-efficient, high-quality care.
• Assist in planning, budgeting, education and HR activities for the department.
• Ensure compliance with patient care quality standards and regulatory bodies; initiate programs to improve performance.
• Ensure age-appropriate nursing care is delivered per hospital policies and plans.
• Participate in nursing quality assurance.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in nursing


• New Jersey RN License


• Cardiac or Telemetry experience required


• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing


• Strong communication and organizational skills


• 1-3 years relative clinical practice

Preferred

• Master's degree in nursing preferred


• Minimum of 2 years of relevant management/leadership experience preferred


• Relevant certification preferred (Med./Surg - Telemetry)

Certifications and Licenses Required

• BLS upon hire and ACLS within 6 months of start date

Scheduling Requirements

• Full-Time Nights, 36 hours per week - salaried position


• Monday - Friday, may require some weekend/holiday coverage

Essential Functions

Responsibilities

• The Assistant Director of Patient Care role will assist the Director in overseeing all clinical operations in the unit.


• The Assistant Director will assist in managing the day-to-day clinical operations of the unit through oversight of all clinical staff and quality improvement, with the goal of cost-efficient, high-quality, value-driven care under the direction of the Director.


• Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of operations of the Department consisting of a group of clearly defined personnel.


• Assists in the direction of and participates in the Department's planning, budgeting, education and human resources activities.


• Ensures compliance with patient care quality standards and regulatory governing bodies. Initiate programs to improve organizational performance to enhance provision of services.


• Ensures that quality, age-appropriate nursing care is delivered to all patients in his/her nursing unit in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures and program plans of the hospital.


• Participates in nursing quality assurance.
