The Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education (https://cehs.unl.edu/tlte) seeks a tenure-line Assistant or Associate Professor of Secondary Mathematics Education who can help prepare effective educators; collaborate with department colleagues, mathematics and STEM content specialists, and classroom teachers, and attract increased national interest and funding to nationally visible programs in mathematics education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Our new colleague will be joining a dynamic and committed community of scholars in the department and a collaborative faculty group in secondary education. The program graduates 10-12 teacher candidates yearly and graduate math education courses that enroll 10-27 in-service teachers each during academic year semesters and during summer terms. Our programs benefit from long-standing and unique partnerships with the Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Center for Science, Mathematics, and Computer Education. We anticipate expanding our faculty in elementary, secondary, and mathematics education not only to prepare students for initial teacher certification, but also to provide professional learning in graduate education and expand opportunities for funded research and scholarship.

Position Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate coursework in Secondary Mathematics Education, including mathematics methods courses.
  • Work with and supervise professional practicum students and student teachers.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Assistant Professor Level
  • Doctorate in mathematics education, curriculum & instruction, teacher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the teaching of mathematics education in higher education and supervising teacher candidates in practicum and student teaching settings.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in secondary mathematics education.
  • A research agenda anchored in secondary mathematics education and/or mathematics teacher education that is commensurate with expectations of a research-intensive institution.
  • Evidence of professional and institutional service.
  • Demonstrated commitment to access and equity in teaching and scholarship.
Associate Professor Level
  • Doctorate in mathematics education, curriculum & instruction, teacher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the teaching of mathematics education in higher education.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in secondary mathematics education.
  • An established research agenda anchored in secondary mathematics education and/or mathematics teacher education, with a sustained record of scholarly productivity commensurate with expectations of a research-intensive institution.
  • Evidence of an emerging or established national reputation in secondary mathematics education and/or mathematics teacher education.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and advising undergraduate and/or graduate students.
  • A sustained record of professional and institutional service in higher education.
  • Academic credentials and accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Preferred Qualifications
Assistant Professor Level
  • Demonstrated mentoring and advising abilities.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience teaching courses in a variety of formats (e.g., in person, online, hybrid, site-based).
  • Participation in funded projects (particularly in seeking and/or securing external funding).
  • Demonstrated success working with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience in secondary mathematics program/course development.
Associate Professor Level
  • Demonstrated success mentoring and advising master’s and doctoral students.
  • A record of securing or contributing substantially to externally funded projects.
  • Experience leading collaborative research, program development, or professional learning initiatives.
  • Experience teaching courses in a variety of formats (e.g., in person, online, hybrid, site-based).
  • Demonstrated success working with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Experience developing or strengthening secondary mathematics education programs and courses.
  • Evidence of successful collaboration with schools, school districts, professional organizations, and university-based colleagues.
  • A record of leadership and service at the state, regional, and/or national level.
