North Carolina A&T State University seeks an Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities to provide executive leadership for planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the university’s physical campus.

The AVC will direct the Office of Facilities and oversee engineering, safety, physical plant, property management, support services, and motor fleet, ensuring alignment with Preeminence 2030 and the Campus Master Plan.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, architecture, or related field with at least 10 years of leadership in facilities or construction management.
• Bachelor’s degree with extensive professional training, credentials, and leadership experience may substitute for advanced degree.
• Knowledge of facilities management, auxiliary services, codes/regulations, RFP and bidding processes, and higher-education operations.

Responsibilities

Primary Purpose of the Role

Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Facilities provides executive leadership for the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of North Carolina A&T State University’s physical campus. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the AVC directs the Office of Facilities, which includes Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Physical Plant, Property Management, Support Services, and Motor Fleet. The AVC administers the University’s custodial services contract and provides strategic direction for major capital projects and day‑to‑day facilities operations, ensuring long‑term stewardship of the institution’s physical assets and alignment with the University’s strategic plan, Preeminence 2030 and the Campus Master Plan.

Primary Function of the Organizational Unit

The Office of Facilities provides high‑quality service through planning, building, operating, maintaining, and enhancing the university’s physical campus. It supports research, teaching, and service missions, and advances the Campus Master Plan in line with Preeminence 2030.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field plus a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in facilities or construction management.
• Alternatively, a bachelor's degree combined with extensive professional training, credentials, and/or leadership experience substantially exceeding the minimum may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.
• Required knowledge and skills include facilities management and auxiliary services principles, construction rules, regulations, and codes, RFP and bidding processes, higher‑education operations, and proficiency with standard office software.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training, and Education

• Professional licensure or certification in engineering, architecture, or construction.

On‑site; employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on‑site.
