Job summary

Burns & Wilcox is seeking an Associate Underwriter to support underwriting activity and manage a portion of the book under supervision. The role involves renewal processing, new business support, and collaboration with retail agents to secure quotes and approvals.

The position offers growth toward full underwriting authority, a hybrid work arrangement, and access to ongoing education through Kaufman Institute. Strong communication and data-driven decision making are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years of underwriting support or industry experience with excess and surplus lines preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency and previous experience in sales and marketing preferred.
• Proven organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Interest in pursuing full underwriting authority.
• Technologically savvy and data-driven.

Responsibilities

• Service a book of business under supervision of an underwriter.
• Evaluate, classify, and rate risks to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing.
• Log applications, prepare binders, and process policies and endorsements.
• Bind risk, post invoices, and process technical data.
• Screen renewal applications and prepare quotes for underwriter approval.
• Assist with new business development.
• Order inspections and handle endorsements and referrals.
• Manage relationships with retail agents and gather needed information.
