Job summary

Burns & Wilcox, the flagship organization of H.W. Kaufman Group, seeks an Associate Underwriter to support underwriting activities and grow within the specialty insurance sector.

You will underwrite and supervise portions of an underwriter’s book, support renewal and new business development, and work toward full underwriting authority under supervision. You will service a book of business, evaluate risks, prepare quotes, log applications, and assist with endorsements while building

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2+ years of underwriting support or industry experience with excess and surplus lines preferred.
  • Proficiency in sales and marketing preferred.
  • Proven organization skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Interest in continued education to obtain full underwriting authority.
  • Technologically savvy and data driven.

Responsibilities

  • Service a book of business under direct supervision of an underwriter.
  • Evaluate, classify, and rate risks to prepare quotes.
  • Log applications, prepare binders, and process policies and endorsements.
  • Bind risk, post invoices, and process technical data.
  • Screen renewal applications and assist with renewal letters and quotes.
  • Assist with new business development and coordinate inspections and endorsements.
  • Manage relationships with retail agents and gather information for underwriting files.

  • Log applications, prepare binders, and process policies and endorsements
  • Bind risk, post the invoice, and process technical data
  • Screen renewal applications and send out renewal letters; perform some of the underwriting and prepare quotes for underwriter approval
  • Assist with new business developmentOrder and follow up on inspections, plus handle endorsement requests and referrals for the underwriter
  • Manage relationships with retail agents and follow up on any outstanding information needed to complete the underwriting file
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2+ years of Underwriting support or industry experience with excess and surplus lines is preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency and previous experience in sales and marketing is preferred
  • Proven organization skills and ability with a strong attention to detail
  • Interest in continued education and professional development to obtain full underwriting authority
  • Technologically savvy and data driven

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation. Base salary range of $60,000-$80,000.
